Kempires 2013 Grow..."project expansion"

My little grow log:

First off I have very thick skin, so feel free to judge or offer any insults that would help this become a greater success. I am new... But I have been growing all sorts of veggies in my outdoor 20x13 garden for years with lots of good (and bad) results.

This year I plan on changing it up a little. Last year I grew lots of tomatoes, to many. Some purple or grey Heirlooms that tasted like shit, cherrys that I couldn't keep up with and they dropped and rotted, etc. So this year I will dedicate a fair amount of my garden to peppers. As well as my garden, I plan on container growing a bunch, and I am building an indoor grow room with a 600hps.

Today I received my first seed order. They were just a couple varieties I picked from a local supplier, there are no super hots, they will be coming soon, but here is what I planted today:

Chervena Chushka Sweet Pepper
Beaver Dam Hot Pepper
Black Hungarian Hot Pepper
Fish Hot Pepper

I also planted some Golden Greek pepperoncini, but the seed source is questionable, so we will see what happens.

I have them in Jiffy peat things, covered, and a heat mat under them. As soon as I see anything I'll post some pics. I'm now waiting on some more of my seeds to arrive, and I'll update when they get here and hit the dirt.

We're all rooting for a great garden for you! Last year you said your purple tomatoes were not to your liking. Bland? Maybe it was just the variety. Soil/fertilizer/water/sun? The purples are my faves, except for a few that seem to be too often planted by everyone - Cherokee Purple, for one. I've just about given up on cherry tomatoes for the same reason you stated - too many, too fast.

:welcome:

thanks for tuning in...

mike.

Nice setup. Are those wire shelves suspended from the ceiling? Interesting idea. Good luck with your grow!

yeah, all i did was bolt some chain to the floor joists and run them to the floor, then used some clips to screw the one side of the shelf to the 2x4 I tapcon'd into the wall. then the other side i just leveled and hooked into the shelf...Home depot wanted way to much for the proper brackets, so I came up with this....strong as can be...

here is a pic of the build before i updated the lights....
took less than an hour to put together....

I just pulled the lid off these guys and dropped the light. Good idea????

Sweet! Looks good too!

Taking the lid of is a must once they sprout. Leave it on and you risk leggy plants and possibly damping off. Also be careful misting your plants with the lights on. The water droplets can make little magnifiers that burn your leaves. Mist at the end of your light cycle. Keep the light as close to your plants as possible without burning the leaves. Usually within a few inches. Hope this helps. Grow plants GROW!

never mind. I cant figure out how to paste my table of what i just planted...Ill keep trying.

Well that wasn't the easiest thing I have done. I created the table in word. I had to convert it to a pdf, then i took a screen shot, added it as a picture to photobucket, then cropped it, and no.......

if anyone knows an easier way to type out and share a 72 cell, please post it for all to see..

Anyway, now i am super excited to add these to my existing grow op. I caught the bug. These seeds came from Spankyscolts, they came quick and packaged well.
....Now i sit here and stare at them until they pop.....

Well, almost that time to get the backyard spot ready... Hired some cheap Labor today. Cost me 2 slushies, and all my weeds were pulled :-) going to get a couple yards or triple mix, and expand. In the 2nd pic you can see the post laying on the grass where I plan on digging up and planting. Here is southern ontario, we still could get frost. But I'm thinking I might get it ready this weekend anyway.

Just don't pull... Wait 5-10 years for them to grow... Really that simple. I have #3 on the way in a few weeks. I'm getting good at germinating these "kemp" seeds... But that's a different "grow log" all together....
