Long pepper & Black peppercorns

Not exactly Hot Peppers, but close.  Has anybody tried growing any heirloom peppercorn seeds (piper nigrum) or long pepper (piper longum)?  I hadn't heard of long pepper until recently and I was hoping to try growing a some.  I'm also tempted to believe I could do a better job than my grocery store supplier on the black peppercorns.

I looked into it years ago, but IIRC, black pepper needs a much warmer winter than we get in Ohio.

I was reading an article that has me hooked on the idea, Peppercorn Varieties, at Pepper-Passion.com:

I don't remember where I heard about Long Pepper, but the idea that it was almost altogether abandon over a millennium ago due to the relative ease in growing Black Peppercorns that has me intrigued.

As for growing them in Ohio, I built one of these and have enough skill with electronics to rig temperature and humidity control.

I'm having a go at growing Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) this year as a twining vine on my border/privacy fence in the garden.  I will report back with my progress.

I am interested in your progress. There is NO WAY I could grow them where we live. Keep us posted!
