Intresting story in that link that New Mexico has gone from 35,000 acres of chilis planted, to 10,000 acres in the last 20 years. Pressure from Mexican imports. Odd, Mexico is seeing the same thing from China in their homeland.
The other day I was looking at large bags of Mexican dried chilis in a store. You guessed it, imported from China.

Sad to hear about the loss of commercial pepper acreage. I pay more for CA peppers for sure, but sourcing locally is important to me.
