Master Angler Channel cats on the Red river

Probably the best birthday present my parents could have got me! An all day catfishing trip on the big ole Red river!

All the fish in the pictures above were master anglers, including the freshwater drum that my dad caught at the end! Just thought I would share the pictures for all of you interested in fishing!

Nice fish! Looks like you had a great day! A friend of mine lives on the Red River in St. Adolphe. I've fished it a few times from shore, but never had that kind of success. I found it to be littered with timber from all the floods, which makes it tough when fishing from shore (a LOT of snags). I'd like to bring my boat there some time and fish it more vertically. What did you use for bait? I'm a novice when it comes to catfishing.

You use a fishing pole for catfish? Who knew???
I thought you just went swimming in your Wrangler Jeans and a Dixie do-rag, and just stuck your fingers in a hole under water?

Nice haul there kid!

Yeah its a super snaggy river, especially near shore! For bait we caught goldeyes and cut them up into about 3 pieces, depending on how big the goldeye was!
I would definitely suggest taking your boat up. The walleye fishing is also incredible on the red!

Can't wait to fish the red again, been many years to many to tell the truth. I have been told stories of huge sturgeon in the red too. My dad had a picture from his childhood of one that had been pulled out of the river near the damn. it's tail was on the ground out of the back of a pick up with the tail gate down. Would really like to get one of those.

Wow! That's crazy stuff, although now days they are pretty damn rare to catch! Especially the gigantic ones! And yeah we caught all those about 150 yards from the dam in a nice little hole we found.
