My mama, out of the hills of Tennessee, always made her own BBQ sauce. Here it is:
1 cup ketchup
2 Tbsps. molasses
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon prepared spicy mustard
3 drops liquid hickory smoke
1/4 cup SUPER-strong black coffee
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper ( I, myself, also add 1 teasp. Jamaican choice or Grace's Scotch Bonnet Sauce)
1/4 teaspoon each of onion & garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon good-quality chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
Mix it all up together in a large ( 1 gallon) baggie, place whatever meat you're BBQing in the same baggie & marinate overnight. Brush more BBQ sauce on meat during last 5 minutes of BBQing. Yummy!
