PaulG 2019

No grow log for the 2018 season other than the Pimenta de Neyde x Bonda Ma Jacques
thread dedicated to Trippa's cross. That one is an ongoing community project going into
second year and a test of the F7 generation. I imagine I will mention it once-in-a-while in
this thread, but the details of its progress will be in the dedicated thread.

I am deciding on a grow list for the 2019 season after growing only Trippa's cross this
season (2018). I definitely have some old favorites that will comprise the great majority
of the grow. I have limited space, so I'm counting on nature to help me make the final
decision. I'll probably start lots of seeds since I'm gun-shy from the poor germination
rates the past couple of seasons.

Here's the pool. Would be nice to be able to grow a bunch of all of them!  I think my
neighbor will shelter the overflow in his yard, but we'll see what to plant and how many
based on what might germinate

c. chinese - 10 varieties
  • PdN x BMJ, F7, white and violet varieties, Trippa's cross
  • Fatali, F2 of seed from Pepper Joe's
  • 7 Pot Burgundy, brown phenotype, pecan shape from 2017 F2 of the 7PB from Windchicken
  • Scotch Bonnet, MoA, F2 of seeds from John/Sim, not high production, but some nice pods
  • JA Red Habanero, F5 of seed from Walk Good/Devv
  • Yellow Scorpion, F7 aka Yellow Trinidad Moruga Scorpion and CARDI Scorpion, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Red, F4, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Chocolate, F3 of seed from Georgia Growhead
  • Bhut Jolokia, hybrid, F2 - I believe it is a  (BJred) x (Pdn x BMJ F1 or F2)
  • Yellow 7 Pot, F2 of seed from Trippa 2013
c. annuum - 4 varieties:
  • JA Red Mushroom, F3, brown phenotype, seed from Refining Fire
  • Pimenta de Padron - Spanish seed, fry up while small and green, throw on some salt
  • Pimenta del Piquillo - Spanish seed, sweet, very flavorful, small stuffers
  • Guindilla - Spanish seed, spicy heat, great pickled, long and skinny
c. frutescens - 2 varieties:
  • Nagahari from Tezpur, India, supposedly very, very hot freebie from Pepper Joe's 2017
  • Chili Costa Rica, F2 (2014) from Hippy Seed Company seed, 2012
c. pubescens - 1 variety:
  • Red Rocoto, F3 of Peruvian Market seed, 2016
That about does it. Seeding time will be here before we know it!

Good looking pods you have there.
Thanks, Jacques. The 'Purple Thunder' BJhybrid has
thrown some interesting pods. All five plants' seed came
from the same pod, yet the results are all different.
Wonder what the next generation will bring. I would
like to get some other growers to grow some out next
season.

those pods look great, I see your season is taking an upturn despite the weather.

Thanks, Scott. We actually had three cloudless days
in a row, temps in low 80's! Then yesterday was totally
cloudy all day. Looks like another sunny day today.
Now just to see if there is enough grow season left  to
get some more pods!

Oops.

Some very nice phenos Paul, amazing how one pod can lead to so many different varieties! Especially the BJh-2 looks extremely pretty. If you're looking for other growers I'd definitely be interested in joining the party - curious about the various flavors too! ;)

Happy to hear the weather seems to be turning, we also finally got some heat back for at least a week and a half, so I'm hoping for some magic...

You are always welcome here, Shane!

Maybe there will be some awesomeness
to see later in the season!

Thanks, Bryan. There are a few bright spots
in the grow this season.

sounds like some beautiful weather.  ours finally broke and it feels great. hoping for a great next two months and 100s of pods each for us all!
Back at ya, Scott! It's great to have days with
no or few clouds. The temps here have been
great, mostly low 80's.

Good luck bringing in those bushels of pods, bro!

It is an interesting cross for sure, Erv. I
will be sure to save some seeds for you.

Hope you find some of that magic!

Thanks, Collin. Been a rugged start to the Summer,
but things are picking up. Hoping for a nice September,
and a grow season which stretches into October!

:point:
It's been so long since I posted pics, I can't
remember what I've done. So I picked a place
to start, and full speed ahead..

First some older pics from 7/29-7/29.

Looking good Paul! No luck on my end isolating flowers yet, might steal your paint strainer bag idea.

Goats weed looks interesting, you already got me into rocoto's might have to grow me some Goats weed next season. How do the pods taste?

Thanks, Burt. The I'm trying a variety of different ways
to isolate pods. Paint Strainer Bags, Reusable mesh
veggie bags, and the little wedding/party favor bags.
Will be interesting to see how they work out.

The Goat's Weed is a great pepper. A bird-type upright
pod that starts out black and turns red when ripe, about
2"- 3" long. They are striking when podded up. The heat
is moderate, and they make great powder and flakes.
