Do a google search for low-stress training. It's basically what redeyes said about tying the plants down. Probably will have to find that info on a pot site, but this is what i'm talking about(my peruvian purple chile from '06):

Grew one plant in '04, never got any fruit. Groving again this year simply bacause the plants are beautiful.

I love these purple plants, especially with purple flowers. I plan to grow peruvian purple again this year. Besides being beautiful it was pleasantly hot, not super hot but nice heat. I grew mine in a container, medium sized plant.

I grew them one year but wasn't too impressed with the looks, or the mild flavor. There are many better purple ornamentals out there IMO.
