chinense Pink Habanero: unusual flower buds location

Today I have noticed an unusual location of flower buds at Pink Habanero plant, not between 2 branches but right on one of them...

It appears that below the bud there's either a missing leaf or more probable a missing branch ? Which may expain the rising position and growth of the petiole(s) on the stem.
