I am starting my grow today using a rapid rooter knock off. Should I put water in the tray underneath so they can wick it up, as well as spray from the top? I just wonder about stagnant water and being TOO wet?
 
a little water is better then to much. i have some thing similar to your kit. i water mine from the top that way the excess water can drian threw to the bottom. with the lid on its keeps the plants nice and humid.
 
I've tried it both ways with the rapid rooters. I found that watering from the top allows you to manage the seeds better.
 
If you water from the top, don't miss any days and let them dry out, especially ungerminated seeds. I've always watered mine from the bottom, less work IMO. Once they get transplanted to solo cups and have a lot more medium to live in, then I water from the top every 3-4 days.
