Is that a live deer in the pic or archery target? Lololol

Basically... Everything but the body. ;)

Yes, that is a live mule deer. Her name is Dodie. She is wild, but the locals feed her by hand. She was raiding the cat food bowl.

EMG pickguards with the pickups and electronics already installed for cheaper than buying all of the parts.

If they only made them in black, I would have bought an HH one for my beater Strat blacktop. decent guitar for the price, but the pickups suck for metal. Nowhere near hot enough.

You don't need super hot pickups for metal. Your amp is going to make the biggest difference.

I hate to disagree with you, but you're wrong to a point. The amp does make the biggest difference, but there still is a noticeable difference between these stock pickups and the EMG 81 in a different guitar I have. Remember, the whole point of modern metal is to hit the pre-amp tubes hard. Can't do that with wussy pickups. I run a TS-9 in front of the amp as well. The EMG 81 gives a superior sound and tone for modern metal.

Now if I want to replicate 80's metal, this Fender will do fine. Just can't get it to sound like this:

Didn't say there wasn't a difference. There is, just like there will be a difference between different brands. Blackouts won't sound like EMGs, Duncan Invader won't sound like a DiMarzio Super D and an L-500XL won't sound like an X2N. But you can make a moderately powerful pickup scream with the right amp. Your Fender through an ENGL or 5150 with have more meat than my EMG equipped ESP through a Plexi.

Have you tried raising your bridge pickup or raising the poles? You can make it WAY hotter that way, also your choice of string metal type will help too. The cobalts I use are super reactive to the magnets. I have one set of emgs but I hate them, I don't like active pickups. You can also add a boost capacitor to the volume pot on the guitar as well to get it hotter, run the cap on a switch so you can do stock or boosted ;-)

I agree with TNR about amp being a huge factor though. Play around with your pickup height and the pole heights and string type....you will be amazed at how different you can make the guitar sound by just playing around with those three things :-)

My hotrod deville smokes my buddies engls when I run a pedal through the clean channel in the "meat" department :-). So much thicker and tighter. I upgraded to a mercury magnetics output transformer though.

Man......... I always fuck quotes up!!!!!! Lololol

I run a transparent overdrive into my amp. Makes a difference.
These are fantastic. I retrofitted one with the actives. Cheaper than the EMG branded and sound the same IMO. http://www.dragonfireguitars.com/Active_c51.htm

some artwork I had commissioned, thought you guys might enjoy it:

I had the 335 done a few months ago in an exchange for some photo work I did for her, but thought it looked lonely all by itself, so I contacted the artist and asked to get the tele and the les paul done so I can hang it as a set.  This makes 5 pieces I have from this artist and I already want to contact her to get more pieces made.  I am on the fence about getting a strat done and an acoustic guitar....

well I know those are distinct guitar bodies we just don't own anything like that or have the intention to get a guitar like that in the future. I had thought about getting a couple basses done, but I feel like it might start to get redundant.

So these were drawn from your personal collection then?

The tele yes, the les paul is what I want one day, and the 335 is on my dude's short list.  He's got a custom strat, and a couple others he hardly takes out and a ton of basses, including a double bass (initially went to college for jazz bass), and a ridiculous 7 string. He plays guitar/bass for a living so he's really the guy that should be posting in this thread.

I also got this one that my friend and I made a long time ago, we took the neck off an old messed up classical guitar and he made the body out of a chunk of walnut he got, and i carved that stuff into the edges

Anyone have a travel acoustic?  Most reviews say the Martin backpacker is the best way to go.  Road trips with 2 adults and 2 ~60lb dogs gets kinda cramped to bring a regular acoustic.  Just looking for some feedback and thoughts.

I had a backpacker and loved it. Held tune and was tough. Great guitar. I would recommend it. Put some mileage on it and regret getting rid of it.
