Questions about this light

I have some questions about this light:

http://www.amazon.com/EnviroGro-FLT24-2-Foot-Fluorescent-System/dp/B002JQBQZQ/

Is this a good deal - 20,000 lumens for $91.95 - I get free shipping on Amazon.

Also, how to I set this up? I need something easily height adjustable, as I will need to raise it when the plants get taller.

Thanks

That light is only rated up to 8000 lumens, not 20K. http://www.hydrofarm.com/product.php?itemid=9650

Here's a better deal on a 20K lumen T5 4 ft. x 4 when you can catch them in stock ($79.99 + $9.95 shipping). http://www.lightingwise.com/item.asp?PID=142&FID=16&level=1

Hang them with chain for easy height adjustment around a foot above plants.

Here's to a great season.

Thanks for the correction and links.

I performed what I thought was the correct math - I was under the impression that my single bulb 4 foot T-5 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001XLSGQ/) was 5,000 lumens. Without noticing that the 4 bulb unit was only 2 inches, I simply multiplied 5,000 by 4 and came up with 20,000. I looked up my current light directly at hydrofarm - I don't understand why they don't list the lumens - http://www.hydrofarm.com/product.php?itemid=2517

Do you agree with my earlier internet research that my current light is 5,000 lumens, or is it less?

Yup, a single 4 ft. 54W T5 tube puts out 5000 initial lumens per tube, so a 4 ft. x 4 would give ya 20K.

Ok - So why does Hydrofarm rate the 2 ft x4 as 8,000 lumens and not 10,000 lumens. If the rating is correct, this means that a single 2 ft T5 tube puts out 2000 lumens per tube. Why does doubling the length increase the luments by a factor of 2.5 and not 2.0?

If you look at the lights there is a dark area near the end caps. The shorter the tube the greater percentage is this dark area. Same reason a n 8 foot bulb has more than 2x the output of a 4.

I get it now.

I did see the dark area on one edge. I thought my light was defective.

Now that I am think about the situation:

I'm keeping my single Bulb T-5, 5,000 lumens to start my seedlings before they get transplanted out in the garden.

The only reason I am looking for a higher capacity light, is to fully grow to fruit my Trinidad Moruga Scorpion which is currently sitting under the single bulb. BUT, this is never going to be more then 2 feet wide, so, will there any difference in the world between getting 4 bulbs that are 4 feet vs. 4 Bulbs that are 2 feet?

Well if you have your moruga on one side and your seedlings on the other of the 4 x 4 rig would be worth it. But if you want to dedicate a light to the moruga go with the 2 x 4. It all comes down to light dispersion; lumens fade quickly, so the light beginning from the further down the tube have less effect on the plant itself.

I ended up getting this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007FGE6C0

Best output for the Moruga. I'll also use it, along with the single bulb T-5, to start the seedlings that go in the garden at the end of May.

Very nice sir. That's what I have a it works pretty good, I seen people get good results with these too. I think Patrick has one like this.
