RoninGarden 2013 Glog

Welcome to another season of RoninGarden,

In this episode...

2013 is here, and a new season is upon us.

This season I got a good head start on the summer outdoor season. I've started a few new strains for 2013 as well as carrying over a few from 2012.

Currently the kids are residing in my closet, within a makeshift grow room.
All are in Airpots varying in size from 1/2 liter for the new sprouts, to 1.5 gallon for the 2012 survivors.
Lighting is a dual bulb t8 fixture running 6500k lamps.
My growing medium is Promix Bx.

Here's the lineup for 2013:

2012 survivors in closet grow area:
7 Pot Douglah
7 Pot Red Brain Strain
Yellow Bhut Jolokia (thanks Taxing)
Giant Bhut Jolokia
Trinidad Scorpion
Butch T Trinidad Scorpion #2
Butch T Trinidad Scorpion #3
White Habanero
Yellow Devils Tongue

Kitchen table:
Atomic Starfish

Bedroom Desklamp Bonchi:

All peppers will receive nutrients via General Hydroponics General Organics series.
IMG_9047_zps664cb36a.jpg

I used these nutes in 2012 with great results, so I'm sticking with what has worked for me...

Having recently moved, my summer growing space has been reduced by half compared to what I had in 2012.
None the less, I'm planning on moving all peppers outside once summer rolls around so they can enjoy the wonderful Colorado sun..
At this point, the plan is to move them into root pruning pouches approximately 5-7 gallons in size.
We'll see how that all goes...
2012 was a great learning experience, can't wait to see what 2013 throws at me...

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update.....

Lovin' the pics of your babies in airpots. I've transferred half of my superhots and Habaneros to them and am pleased enough with the results to buy the next size airpot for up-potting later. Cheers

Thanks Stickman! Once I transferred over to the Airpots, I never looked back. I'm a believer in air pruning pots.

Welcome to another Tuesday edition of RoninGarden,

On this episode Pod Porn!

Since moving under T5's a few have started to pod up like crazy, while others are just putting on stupid growth.
No complaints either way.
I never expected to have pods this early in the season.

So, on to the pics....

Here's all the kids:
all_zps8121d858.jpg

This is the latest pepper to put on some poddage.
Peach Scorpion:

We'll follow up with the Naga Viper.
This one has two pods at the moment, with a third forming.
num5_zpsaab2a384.jpg

Last but not least is the Green Scorpion.
This was the first to pod up, and by far has the most pods going.
I think it's at 10 or 11 pods at the moment.

Picture perfect pods:

Welcome to a Friday edition of RoninGarden,

Today all the Airpot kids got fed.
G.O. nutes all around.
I adjusted the mix a bit to accomodate the needs of the kids.
My N-P-K worked out to be 19-22.5-19
Nice and balanced.
I've had some flower drop lately and I hope this adjustment will end that. We'll soon see..

The hydro Primo is rockin! Topping out at 9"!
It got a reservoir cleaning and nutrient change today.
Last week when I changed out the nutes I added some N boost.
The pepper seems to have taken to the boost well.
Here it is on
Here it is on 2/9 only 4 days after being put under the T5's.
255DC3A7-4A5A-4300-85B7-4A2760D24B0E-469-0000017B8C5632B1_zpseaa04bad.jpg

Here it is today. Just shy of a month under T5's
IMG_9216_zps2dde60ef.jpg

As well I have been using General Hydroponics Rapid Start root booster for 2 weeks now.
I have seen some some good growth within the roots.
IMG_9214_zps7d1ea7be.jpg

The leafage on this thing is unreal.
IMG_9217_zps3cc50b0e.jpg

The under growth is jumping too.
IMG_9219_zps86151fef.jpg

First time hydro pepper is going well...
IMG_9218_zps24ddd8c4.jpg

I just keep my ph around 5.5-6.0 and renew nutes weekly.

I adjusted the lights today to a foot above the tallest plant. I did this for better light distribution. As well as repositioning everyone in the tent.
Here are all the kids in the tent.

Everything looking awesome as usual Ronin! I scraped together enough to get enough 5 gal airpots and Dirt Pots to move my chiles in air pruning pots into when it's time to give them new shoes after the next repotting... blue base is 5 gal. yes?

Wow man, those GO nutes and the T5s look like an unbeatable combo! Those pods look awesome. Love the gnarly wrinkles! Gonna be HOT there, soon!

Awesome!!!!!
Thanks Mill!

Yes. You are correct. Blue base is 5 gallon.
Saw a 10 gallon today at the grow shop. Tempting...

Peppers love G.O. nutes...And T5's of course..
It's killing me to not pop one off and start cookin..

Welcome to another Friday edition of RoninGarden,

Everyone got fed last night.
All airpot kids got their G.O. nutes.
Again they got fed a mix that was well balanced equal n-p-k #'s.
The hydro Primo got its reservoir cleaned and Soul Synthetics changed out.
The roots have exploded on this one.
IMG_9279_zps9782d727.jpg

It's topping out at 12" now.
IMG_9282_zpsabf0af34.jpg

All the kids are doing well. I had to re-arrange everyone to fit better in the tent.
I also moved the lights up and they are now approx 12" above the tallest plant.
Now that it's 2 weeks into a more well balanced diet, I'm seeing less flower drop and more pods forming.

I'll close out this update with some pod pics...
We'll start with the Naga Viper:
IMG_9312_zps74daafce.jpg

Next up is the Green Scorpion. This one has about 21 pods on it now..
IMG_9239_zps3c3eb84c.jpg

The Peach Scorpion has 4 pods on it now. One in an upright position.
IMG_9276_zps57ccd743.jpg

I'll close it up with the 7 Pot Brown.
There's about 4 pods so far..

Wow is right!!! Your grow is incredible! So high techy, between the grow tent, the airpots, the hydro setup, and the T5's. Here I am just getting true leaves on some of my sprouts, and that Green Scorpion of yours is ridiculously loaded down with pods! Just goes to show what is possible with the right amount of time and $$ invested.

Way to go, Ronin!

Seriously impressive work.Keep it up. Those things are amazing.
What he said ^... just... Wow!
Thanks guys!
Everything is on timers..
I just sit back keep them fed and watch.

Thanks!
Definitely more time than money invested. Thankfully we're spoiled being in CO with so many grow shops and surplus grow equipment.
Can't say enough about craigslist out here..

On this episode of RoninGarden,

New pods!
Pruning and new sprouts potted up.

Going through and doing my pest check I came across a new pod.
It's on the #1 Douglah.
IMG_9317_zpsf59b47d9.jpg

This pod is only the size of a dime.
Really impressed by this. I grew a douglah last year but got no pods.
Much better this time round.

Here are all of the newest kids. Only the last two got potted up recently(#19 and jalapeno).
Top L/R: #15 7 Pot SR x Douglah, #16 Primo, #17 Nebru
Btm L/R:#18 Primo, #19 Chocolate Bhut x 7 Pot Yellow, and a friends jalapeno I'm starting for them.
IMG_9325_zpsa7579807.jpg

Here's the hydro Primo.
I had to pinch a few leaves off to allow the new lower branches to get some light.
IMG_9322_zps8161773b.jpg

I have a basil and a marigold in the two white 3" pots.
Companion planting even indoors.
Here's my other basil. Nothing like fresh basil when cooking.
IMG_9320_zpsfc6a33e1.jpg

The hydro Primo is finally starting to bud up.
This is the one pepper I really want to see some pods on.
IMG_9321_zps989c887c.jpg

I'll close out with a group shot of the kids.

Simply incredible...indoors. Are you doing anything to pollenate or are the flowers making enough pollen for it to happen spontaneously?

Simply incredible...indoors. Are you doing anything to pollenate or are the flowers making enough pollen for it to happen spontaneously?

Thanks Doc!
I'll finger flick the flowers when I'm watering or checking for pests, otherwise it's all the fan.

Here's one hell of a mutant flower/possible pod forming..
It's on #12 HP22b
IMG_9346_zpscd9f7127.jpg

Maybe germinating on the wifi does have some side effects? Hahaha

Heh... I'll see your double-yolk egg and raise you a double-chile pod... ;) Hope it makes it to harvest.

Ha, no doubt!

Welcome to this Saturday edition of RoninGarden,

First up is the myco seed experiment. One popped on thursday.
23060D65-3B15-4047-8C68-D5CC45C8FA19-390-0000008DBBD01900_zpse91fd04a.jpg

#19 Naga Viper.
It was placed into a rapid rooter on 1/11.
2 months and 4 days to germinate... This is the longest I have ever taken to germinate a seed.
My average is anywhere from 4-12 days.. Now to find out whether the myco granules I placed in the rapid rooter will help the roots explode now that it has popped.
Updates to follow..

All the kids in airpots got fed their G.O. nutes yesterday.
They got the regular well balanced n-p-k diet.
The hydro Primo got a reservoir cleaning and Soul Synthetics nute change as well.
The Primo is rockin!
IMG_9389_zpsa115da4d.jpg

The rockwool cube is 6" for reference.

It's topping out around 15".
IMG_9390_zps1a035006.jpg

The roots have exploded as well.
IMG_9399_zps86142315.jpg

I've been using General Hydroponics Rapid Start root booster for the past few weeks, with great results.

Here's the Primo back in the tent.
IMG_9402_zpsb3a15a5a.jpg

This thing is growing so fast that I have had to move everything around in the tent to get it all to fit.
I see a pruning session in my near future...

I'll close out this update with a few pod pics..
Here is the first Mean Red Cross #2.
mrc4_zps36bcfe8e.jpg

And last but not least my mutant hp22b pod.
hp22b_zpsdbe498da.jpg

It's continuing to grow...

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update.....

Hi Ronin
I used the RapidStart for the first time this year, and I'm sold baby!... I got a huge leaf canopy, robust plant form and deep purple stems like I see on your plants. I'm lovin' this!

I'm with ya Rick. My first time using the rapid start and great results so far.
Not bad for a free sample..

Lookin' great, as always!
Thanks Doc!

Welcome to a Monday edition of RoninGarden,

Today, pod pics..
Since balancing out my n-p-k #'s two weeks ago pods have been popping everywhere.
There's only a few plants that haven't put on pods, which is nothing to be concerned with.
They're putting stupid amounts of growth. Which led me to do some pruning the other day.
Here's a few pics of some of the new poddage as well as a few that are already set.

First up is the hydro Primo.
No pods yet but it did set its first flower.
primo_zps73a27a34.jpg

The countdown is on!

Next up is the hp22b.
First is the mutant pod from the side:
hp22b1_zpscffbfeb8.jpg

Now from the bottom:
hp22b2_zps73e9662c.jpg

And now a new pod that formed recently:
hp22b3_zps949e7055.jpg

Next is the Naga Viper.
This has really been podding up well:
nagaviper1_zps44899a37.jpg

nagaviper2_zpsc82aef64.jpg

I'll close it up with the Peach Scorpion:
peachscorp_zpsbf6fc652.jpg

A very strange pepper. Some hang and some are in upright positions.
Can't wait til this starts to ripen...

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update....
