Scotch Bonnet & Baccatum Grow- Back IN The Saddle

So after getting off to a good start I slamed into a brick wall concerning germinating seeds it did not matter what I did.
I realized that I needed to do some serious thinking & my green thumb instincts was telling me this is what I needed to do.
So I know it is not much to look at but the plan now is to grow for this pepper Jelly recipe I came up with last year but only had enough for one test batch everyone loved it even a friend who never had any & thought she would not like it.
The ox heart tomatoes that will be grown at moms will be sold at the farmers market as well as some of my pepper Jelly
I have sowed Bronze Fennel as well & have Brazilian Starfish pods placed for possible volunteers they will have to be relocated but that's no biggie an my other herbs /flowers will probably self seed
Revised 2016 Grow List

Red MOA SB Sowed January 4th 9 Seedlings
Arkansas Peach Reaper 2 seedlings
Ancient Sweet -not yet sown
AJI Penec -not yet sown
Over Winters
Yellow Moa SB
Red Moa Mutant Hot Pink with pimples & Apple Pheno

Thanks Justin I was trying to figure out how I could fit more in but did a number quote its just not happing always next year .
Best wishes on your grow as well I have some ideals for some bonnet crosses this year.
If all goes will I might try one or two.

My setup for 2016 got a grow light nothing fancy but hey I've done good without lights so this should be fine.
I have spaced out my sowing times so should be good .
First up will be what I think most likely the hottest is 7Pot Yellow X 7 Pot Douglah
I think the flavor profile will be fruity & sweet with citrus & maybe some smokiness

I guess Oro (gold) is not meaning anything- Red PODS as true?

Beth/Peppermania sold the seeds as a GOLD pods.
They Grew RIPE Yellow pods.

Red are probably crosses or something else.

But I guess people these days know better...

I have most seeds Beth sold since the mid 2000's.
She was a very GOOD friend for years.
Saying El Oro De Ecuador are red is Wrong!
Very Wrong!
They ARE GOLD PODS when ripe.

Anything else are not El Oro De Ecuafor pods.
Beth had a good seed source for them.
Red is not the color they ripen as.

Thanks Smokemaster for the information the ones I got are supposed to produce yellow pods .
Everything I read about Beth /peppermania is just awesome wish I could of got to know her.

So much stuff these days is according to internet popularity, not fact.
Too many crosses etc. are going around under the original name.
Then taken as fact.
Sorry if I sounded too Blunt in my post.
But ORO is gold.
Why would you think red pods were the real thing?

Beth was a VERY GOOD FRIEND of mine.
I talked to her a couple days before she died.
She ALWAYS called me before and after I had Chemo to give me mental support.
I wish she lived a week or so longer, she would have been as happy as I was when I found out I was Cancer free.
I miss her greatly!

As far as I can remember she was the original source for El Oro De Ecuador.
I never heard of it before she grew it.

I probably have seeds from Beth and seeds from non isolated grow outs.
I'm going to try and do a Beth and Scotch Bonnet Steve grow out this season.
We'll see...

Seeds are getting old for both.
I have EVERYTHING Beth sold since the mid 2000's.
Gotta keep Beth and Steve's spirit alive...

Smokemaster I didn't know Oro meant gold till you told me .
Another member told me that there was a orange & red version of them .
So I thought that there was two different variants of them.
I really don't know anything about them other then what you have told me.
I only started growing baccatums last year .
You was not too blunt I thank you for the facts on them .
Yes there are a lot of hybrids out there and along the way names get butchered .
There is a golden ghost hybrid a yellow ghost crossed with something.
It is not supposed to be as hot as a true ghost pepper but still plenty hot
They look like pics of a yellow fatalii to me so I think that's what they are most likely crossed with.
The thing is people are going to Just call it yellow ghost etc and let the confusion begin
I look for it to show up on eBay with the hybrid dropped .
That grow sounds like a good one hope the seeds germinate for you.

I sometimes forget that Ca. is next to Mexico...
Half of everything here in So.Cal, is written in Spanish.

I knew Oro was Gold from High School Spanish classes.

Reminds me of a Hotel Bar next door to my leather shop in Truckee YEARS ago.
It was called Copa De Oro - Cup of Gold.
Locals (non Latinino's)called it Coppa De Buzzo.

I just think so called Versions,IF true should be named as to what they are - Maybe El Rojo De Ecuador(red),or Naranja (orange).
I'd place a few bucks on a bet that in Ecuador, nobody heard of an El Oro De Ecuador that was any other color than yellow.
Actually,I think Beth named it,not possitive.
She knew a LOT of people from different places as RELIABLE sources for seeds, for a LONG time.

Too many things, due to the internet get posted as a Landrace or strains of something that was created somewhere other than the name makes you think it was from.

In Ecuador I'd bet if there is a similar looking pod,of another color,it isn't called El Oro.

But it's on the internet,It gots ta be fact. LOL

Probably something a Vendor or a seed trader came up with to sell crossed seeds rather than just suck up their losses or to be cool or ?
Maybe just something someone called their impure seeds so they could sound like they were in the know about a RARE pepper.
I really don't know.
A lot of B.S. rules these days on the net.

My point is,IF you got seeds labeled as Red Scorpion and got an Annuum that was red instead,or even another colored Scorpion - at a buck or? a seed.
Would you be angry?
If you were a vendor with a TON of the same seeds, would you re name it to get rid of them, hoping they grew something the customer liked.True or not...

Nobody knows what it REALLY is.
Like Pepper Joe,all you have to do is market it,Like he did with the Annuum he sold for years(20 +) as a Chinense called Tazmanian Habanero.
If customers liked it,you sell them all as a rare strain/Variety or whatever.
Laugh all the way to the bank.

I'm not against crosses,
For Example,check out Rainbowchiliseeds - Vladan's site.
LOTS of his crosses there.
BUT he sells them HONESTLY AS F? crosses.
Doesn't try and say ANYTHING he sells as something it isn't.
I have EVERYTHING he sells and has sold for several years.
I celebrated my Cancer Remission by purchasing everything he sold last year.
$ well spent.
Plus Vladan has been more than cool for A LOT OF YEARS!

Guess I'm babbling again-as usual.
Just trying to make a point, not trying to complain(Female Dog-B.I.T.C.H.).

My opinion is worth what you paid for it...   :)

Smoke

All good points your opinions mean a lot to me smokemaster.
There is always something you can learn form somebody else .
Put some seeds to soak so I guess it officially starts for me tomorrow .
I am thinking we are going to have a hot summer its been a fairly mild winter the trade of is bugs will probably be bad.

The green ones have Red Moa SB seeds sowed it will be 12 if all pop .
The four white ones have the 7 Pot Yellow X 7 Pot Douglah then in front of them in light green containers are sowed the 2SB7J seeds form Steve Queen

Well I have one Red Moa SB that's popped so I turned on the grow light.
To my surprise I had some kind of cat grass or wheat etc that sprouted as well.
So I plucked them & gave them to my cat she was glad to have them lol
I also have soaked & sowed some of Sawyer's Arkansas Peach Reaper have them by a heater with a humidity dome on

As of today I have 5 red moa scotch bonnets 4 new ones popped for me ;)
I still haven't  gotten any 2SB7J's but it is still early :P
There nothing on the superhot :fireball:  front as yet but truth be told if none germinate it want sadden me almost didn't even grow any.
I have added 3 Jalapeno varieties  Numex  Jalamundo, Numex Vaquero & Jalapeno  Cracked .
These will be sowed in march & used for cowboy candy, pepper jelly & sauce .
I will probably take some to a local Mexican Restaurant & have them sautéed them .
If the supers or the 2SB7J don't germinate I have some scotch bonnet varieties that will be sowed .  :fireball: :fire:   :onfire:  :high:  ;)
