Small 1cm Chilli ID

Hi Guys
First post here, so hopefully i'm doing it all the way it should be done :)

I'm trying to ID these Chillies ... a Chef friend said Rocket Chillies, but after a bit more checking I think they might be something else.

They start Black / Dark Purple then ripen into a bright red.
Generally no bigger than 1cm in length
(there's two plants next to each other - one seems to produce ones 50% longer?)
Definitely up the scale in heat, I'm no expert, less than Ghost but hotter than most.
Have a slight smoky flavour when fresh, more enhanced when dried in baking tray by window.
Plants are currently around 1 metre high ... It's a rented house but I'm assuming they are 3 years old maybe 4.
In height of summer, I'll be picking about 1000 a week!

Bit irrelevant to ID but I've made these into Sauces and Chilli Powder and they are brutal ... 1/4 teaspoon powder for a hot curry / chilli for 4+ people

Hopefully that helped a bit, but here's some photos:

Start Black, then Green Then Red

Will be very grateful if I can ID what type of Chillies they are, because:

This season, they are just getting going - they're flowering and then producing tiny tiny red fruit?
A couple of mm at most.
Could just be early in the season (we've just started hitting some 27 - 34 C days).
That said, they have been producing a little fr the last month - anywhere between 7 at night and 20 (max) in the day.

TL:DR
1 - Love to know what these are
2 - Any ideas why they're now producing miniscule fruit?

Thanks in advance.
Very glad I found this site - going to enjoy reading up on it all and trying to turn guesswork into something a bit more organised ha ha

Thanks

I had seeds from a trade for RED ROCKET years ago.
It was VERY popular at the time.
Mine were traded as extras from a commercial seed pack - isolated?

They grew pods similar but a little bigger than your picture looks.

They were said to be ANNUUM but had more of a Frutescence type heat and taste.

To me Frutescens are very hot for a VERY short time and the taste lasts longer.

Chiltepe,Chiltepins,Pequin and tepins and similar stuff (ANNUUMS) just doesn't match the Short term, instant heat of a Frutescens.
Taste is a lot different than an Annuum.

The longer/larger pods look like the Red Rockets i grew years ago.
THEY WERE A HYBRID I think,was told.

I might be getting old timers disease,so my memory is what it is.

My records show RED ROCKET from TANYA(probably from Garden Web)-no year.
I'd guess I got them in the mid to late 70's originally.
I still have grow out seeds.
I guess they didn't impress me or I'd have more notes about them and still be growing them.

It is also VERY possible that I NEVER grew out my grow out seeds because they are a hybrid originally.
Limited garden space etc.
Yours LOOK like a Pequin to me.
But the taste etc. I posted above could give us a clue as to what they are.
You'll never confuse a Frutescens and Annuum after tasting them.
Hope this helps you out.
I might have just added more confusion.
I'm good at that at times. LOL

The heat in these lasts ... and lasts ... and lasts ha ha!
I think the first fresh one I tried had a good 15 mins of burn.

That's amazing. It looks like a vast supply of pods. It must have taken a long time to pick them all.
Inedible ... yes, takes ages.
When the plant is really firing, I'd spend an hour out there twice a week picking them - averaging around 1000 each time.
I have to admit that I let a lot dry / die / fall off the plant simply because my back would be aching from creeping around the plant trying to pick them and not stand on the other chilli and capsicum plants next to them.

I need to find some more local chilli lovers so I can share them around - I still have 500g of dried ones which I estimate is about 5000 in a bag in the cupboard, plus a jar of sauce that gets used 1/2 a teaspoon at a time and a pot of ridiculous powder that they produced.
Great chillis, but it's hard to get through them all as they're so hot - it's fun trying though :)
