Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.
 
In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just 
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

Right on, Adam, nice beefy pods. 
 
The F6 seems to be trending to more of a yellow ivory than
white this season in my grow.  The purples haven't started
ripening yet, so will have to see what happens there.  Did
you cut open the pods to see if the seeds are ripe?  How
about a taste test?

Seeds look just fine to me.

I'd say they're ripe. Just tried a piece, too. Crispy, watery/juicy, grassy flavored...all attributes that I like. Great pepper in the purple version, Paul! Haven't tried the white.

I agree, Adam, the seeds look great. Should be nice and white when they dry out.
 
Thanks for the report, brother! Good to know they are very serviceable at the light

I have always thought Tristen's cross was a great producer. But this year
the number of pods on the plants is just stupid. I suppose it could be due
to the fact the cross has been growing in our PNW climate since 2014, now
six generations along the path to stability, and I've always selected the biggest,
'gnarliest' pods possible for seed stock. Here are a few pics of the F6s getting 
it on towards ripening...
 
F6W-1, lots of nice, big pods coming along:

F6W-1, probably the best pod production of any generation, yet.
The other F6 will mount a serious challenge if we have a decent Fall
and a nice long grow season finish:

F6W-2, showing marked light purple transition colors. Just a waiting game, now:

F6W-2, these really want to be ripe:

F6W-2, pink pods. Wha...? I'm always entranced by the color changes
this cross goes through; it never gets old:

Accidentally knocked a violet pod of the F6W-2 plant messing around
with the branches. Bit a little off the end for a taste. Not at all unpleasant,
and an actual hint of fruit. Juicy and crunchy. The aroma is strong.This small
bite produced a pleasant heat in my mouth that lasted for some time. It carried
into my throat when I swallowed the chewed up remnants, but didn't last long there.

Cutting open the pod revealed arrays of  nice white seeds.
The next day the seeds had a dry, white look. I'd have to say
they are ripe, or very nearly so:

 
I think it's good to know the pods are very serviceable at the light purple
stage and after. One could harvest pods at whatever color stage one wanted
for salsas, etc. Can't wait to hear everyone weighing in on the taste  , heat
and productivity  of Tristen's cross. The pods just seem to get a bit bigger each
generation, in general. I hope everyone will take their best seeds and grow out F7s
in the 2019 season!
 
As harvest time rolls along, I would say feel free to share them around and increase the
number of folk growing Tristen's gem of a cross!

These are F4 and F6 plants in my neighbors front
yard - big, purple and full of pods :

I just love the morning sun on the F6s, and the contrast
of the dark purple new growth against the green of the
older vegetation. The iPhone images just dont do justice
to the irridescence of the purple leaves. They almost seem
like ornamental plants!

Thanks, Scottie! This has been one of the best grow seasons
as far as temperature goes in the past few years. The plants
have just been in overdrive since they went out at the end of
June.

Got some nice seed pods from some F6W plants
in my neighbors front yard. They range from 2 - 2.5
Inches in length, and 5/8 - 7/8 inch in diameter, and
have a nice, creamy color.

Great review, Gary. It is good to get another take on these
pods. Folk in our neighborhood are finding them quite hot
as well.

I appreciate your comments and recommendations
to other growers. Looks like you are growing some
awesome pods there, my friend!

Managed a little harvest today, just a few that beat the
rest of the changing pods to ripeness. Should get a big
harvest in a couple of weeks.

I pulled my isolated pod off of the white plant. It looked ready.

I got 34 isolated seeds from this very aromatic pod.

The purple isolated pod will hang a while. I think I'm liking the purple more and more.

Thanks, friend, the warm, sunny weather has been a real
blessing for chili growers! Hoping for a few more weeks
of late summer weather to see some of the awesome pods
left on the plants get a chance to reach maturity. Looks like
the white variety can be harvested when in the light purple
transition stage, so I will take what I can get

What a great seed pod, Adam! Kudos for a great season
with the F6! Id say those seeds look great, and the pod
shape and color are awesome. Thirty-four seeds from one
pod is amazing.
Will be interesting to see the next generation if you decide
to grow the F7!

Thanks for posting some great update pics. I agree about
the strong scent. Good luck with the purple that plant is
living life large. I love the way these pod up!

Not have luck with my Cherio Roxa this year.

You mean trying to isolate? Every time I try (I use the glue tek) it rains, then they pop open. I got lucky with these two and two other crosses of mine, but the Cinder has yet to isolate. I bagged a branch on one yesterday. Same problem with SB7J and Brown Moruga. I just want pure seeds. Lol.

Cooler, wetter is the forecast for the next 5 days, so I decided
to pick some pods before things got too soggy.  Good thing,
there were a ton of pods starting to soften.  These are all from
F6 plants. Almost all are violet/ivory pods.
 

From the F6W-2 plant, 240 grams:

From the F6W-1 plant, 276 grams:

A few pods from the F6P. Not much different than the F6W in my view.
Interesting change in color, seeing that the F4 pods are mostly ivory:

De-seeding the F6W pods revealed slick, yellow, oily interiors
with lots of ripe seeds. Quite pungent, as usual.

All ready for the dryer. Should make a great light yellow
powder with violet/purple specks:
