Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

Glad they are satisfactory, my friend! I hope they
arrived in good shape. Great food for a taste test!

Oh, just saw the pic of the pods. Looks like they
Made it in decent shape. In general, these keep
very well. Several weeks in the fridge in a breathable
sack works well.

They are tough as nails! So the violet pheno is a new/recent generation thing?

The white pods started showing in the F3 generation, but
they have always had some purple blush showing. Last
season was the first for the real purple pods with the F6P.
This seasons violet pod plants came from white seed pods
from last season, so two out of three of the white seed plants
put out the violet pods. Well see what next season has to offer.

I've spent my evening making a batch of chili with home grown peppers, drinking beer, watching re-runs of Futurama,

...and...

contemplating a name for these peppers!

Since Leela is a sexy mutant with purple hair, and since the PDN x BMJ peppers have distinctive purple traits, I thought she could a candidate for the naming of these peppers.

Perhaps "Pimenta De Turanga" for the purple variety, and "Bonda Ma Leela" for the white variety (doesn't this translate as "Leela's hot, white underwear" in Creole?)

Hey, Mitch!  Love your thinking, buddy!

Leela Turanga is one of my favorite characters on Futurama.
Gotta love a girl with one eye!

But of course, I liked the Jetsons when I was a kid, too

Pimenta de Turanga and Bonda Ma Leela are both awesome!
Just obscure enough to be an inside joke, but exotic enough
to be for real. Especially Leela's Hot White Underwear.

In Creole

Five points for putting on the thinking cap, my friend!

Great names! I'm pretty sure 'bonda' actually translates to 'butt' though

In Portuguese they say 'bunda', so that's probably where it came from. The pepper's name in Creole is actually 'pimen bonda Man Jak', as stated by this French website:

Bonda: derrière, fesses. On appelle "piman bonda Man Jak" un piment dont la forme évoque les fesses rebondies d'une femme : celles sans doute qui caractérisaient la Madame Jacques en question

Which roughly translates to:

Bonda: behind, buttocks. We call 'piman bonda Man Jak' a spice which shape reminds one of a woman's plump behind, that is characteristic of the Madame Jacques in question.'

I wonder who this Madame Jacques was. Maybe she was friends with Madame Jeanette?

Edit: By the way, shouldn't the names be switched around? Because Leela sounds exactly like 'lilas', which is French for lilac (a shade of purple).

Edit2: I just realized that's probably exactly why they named the character Leela... Epiphany of the day!

Thanks for the French/Portugese lesson, Bernd!

I always wondered where the BMJ name came from.
Most of the ones I've grown didn't really look like a
plump female bottom, though. Maybe I'm missing
something

BBM?

Now I get it  :scared: A fellow brought a few to the
NW ChiliFest a couple of years ago.  They
caused some pain. Could well be related

Seeds arrived in perfect condition. Youre amazing,
That may be a bit of an overstatement, Aravind ☺️ , but I am glad
they arrived safely .

Good luck with them in the upcoming season.

Hey Marc, did the postal strike end on the 13th?
I was reading a little about it online.  Hope it's over,
that can be very inconvenient.

Still problems... We do receive some mail but the PDNxBMJ seeds still haven't arrived...  :(
I'm also expecting some 7pod burgundi seeds from another forum member. They are sent from our neighboring country France. They haven't arrived yet either...

The 7 Pot Burgundy is an awesome pepper :fireball:
Big red pods. I have grown it a couple of times.

In 2017, I grew a 7PB that had brown pods, though not
very many.  One looked just like a pecan, same color
brown and the shape right on.  Going to try to grow
one of those this year.

Hope those both come through for you soon , Marc.
If they are lost, I can always send more.
