Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

My results so far with these genetics. Planted out June 4th.

Lastly we come to the really interesting PdNxBMJ F8 Violet. Exhibiting some incredible fasciation. Check it out.

Keeping seeds for sure. Thanks for making such a neat hybrid!

Those should be F7 plants, Rich, this being
the seventh generation of Tristens cross. Unless
you somehow got seeds from the F7s and planted
them already, you magic man, you.

They are real beauties. Will be interesting what
kind of pods come from the white pod seeds this
season. I hope everyone will report in with their
results. I am especially interested in whether the
white pods are an anomaly. Maybe I was lucky
the first couple of iterations with the white pods
(starting with third generation white pods). The
violet/purple pods showed up in the Fifth generation
season.

Speaks to growing large numbers of plants to really
get an idea of what the actual ratio of white to purple
pods there really might be.

That is why I am so jacked to see what happens this
season!

When do the pods get ripe. Im scared to pick it unripe. They seem purple with hints of white. Should it be entirely white?
Hey, Aravind. I usually judge them by feel.
When they are getting soft, I pick them. After
a few pods, you will have a better idea of what
the plant is producing. The pods can range from
totally violet to totally white. Most are darker on
the sunny side of the pod.

Youre pods may be ripe. Give em a squeeze!

I have the first tiny weeny pod just set on the indoor plant, woohoo!  Realistically I'm not going to be able to post a photo anytime soon.  Where do you guys host your photos?  I'm having trouble with finding reliable and easy-to-use photo hosting.

The plant celebrated its success by toppling off the windowsill and breaking off several branches.  Grrr!

Ouch! Hate that!

To be honest, I had the same feeling
about 3rd party hosting. PITA alright.

To me it is worth the few dollars a month
to be able to upload my photos directly
from my devices. Totally under my control,
not some 3rd party profit-motivated photo
hosting site.

Glad t o hear there is a pod on the way. I hope
it wasn't on one of the broken branches!

This is an overripe pod from Bhuter's F7 White isolated:

Anyone care to comment?

I'm wondering about the white plant I have. Where it grows, in a raised bed is quite crowded. So I will open its area up, as I'm pod loaded already, just to see if the color changes when it gets more sunlight.

I hope it stays white. Very interesting that Bhuter's white went violet this season...

Sounds like a plan, Scott. I do notice a little purple
shading on the sunny side of the white pods when
I get them. Can't wait to see some more pix of them.

I did thin some plants around it this morning and, I had to treat for aphids. We're in the hot part of summer now, but I'm going to try an coax some flowering. I hope they set.

The purples are still loaded. I'm about caught up around here so tomorrow I should be picking and taking some pics...
