Ummmm....I think I broke the light rig....

loose connections are a huge cause of fire... be very careful. that's why those multi boxs always flare up, bad quality connections cause arcing, arcing causes heat, and the heat ignites the plastic, it's even worse if you have an appliance that draws alot of power.
If your fridge is plugged into a cheap multi box, go plug it into the wall, quick!
 
If it's questionable, I'd either fix it or ebay/craigslist it.

Don't just bin it..it's a pretty nifty antique. :)

Hell, I'd take it off ya hands. ;)
