The Peruvian Death Peppers fall in the 100,000 - 200,000 category, right under habaneros. Jalapenos are ranked anywhere between 2,500 - 8,000. ChaCha!

Not only that lol.. Pure capsicum (The active ingredient that actually make peppers taste hot) is ranked at 16,000,000 so chemically nothing can be hotter than that. Unless you have engineered an entirely different molecular structure.

Some go by 15, but most experts these days go by 16 million

"the Naga Jolokia (Ghost Chili) at just over a million SHU, however, the record may be broken after further testing of the Naga Viper Chili, a hybrid chili developed by the University of Warwick. "

So now Warwick developed the Viper? :( This is a classic example of how bad information gets spread

ohh so then they just lied about the scoville?

i knoww..
Well the the name of the pepper was first used in old Garfield comics, but a pepper with that name may also exist.

On all of the chili database sites, the pepper is listed yet no information is given, except this picture of a flower.

If it is a real pepper, it can't be rated at 15-16m SHU ;)

LOL. That although sounds technical is not so if your Stephen Hawkins lmao. That sounds similar to the way the body reacts to a burn. (from my memories of human biology). Although it says about synthesis of the chemical, they still engineering the same stuff lol. So even if man made or not would still fall under the same rules. I get thinking to my chemistry days and wonder if a chemical out there could be made or found to push the boundaries

Hmmm After reading through the thread I am at risk of sounding unethical. As thinking about it the only way to break the 16,000,000 I can see is to adjust the way the chemical effects the human body. |I'm sure this kinda of work has been done before some where in Columbia i think lol.
