I usually use oleoresin or some strained juice from very hot peppers and mix it with a little insecticidal soap(or reg dish soap) and water but only half fill(or less) your sprayer and then refill with just water next time. The key is to get all the chunks out so it sprays without clogging, and you'll likely have to shake a lot since the cap will want to float.
As for my cat, he likes climbing my bigger plants like my bananas and playing Tarzan. Sometimes he'll dig around in the soil too and make a mess
