drying Dehydrating

I have a bunch of frozen hot peppers. How should I go about dehydrating them? Cut them in half? De-frost them first? Put them in whole? Thanks.

That depends, are you planning on grinding them up?

If so I would cut them in half first, lower heats and longer run time produces better quality powder.
Good luck!!

here is what i am going to do. i have been saving hot lemons but don't have enough to fill the dehydrator, so as peppers become ripe i store them in the freezer. first, i slice the peppers in half and deseed them then toss them into the freezer, in freezer bags. my plan is to cool thaw them, in the fridge, on a paper towel to aborb moisture. then i will put them into the dehydrator once clear of any freezer moisture.

hope things work out for you.

Just recieved my Nesco FD-80 Dehydrator. Got a bunch of hot peppers in/on all 4 trays. I'm trying them at about 140 degrees for 15 hours. Will see what happens. Any suggestions? :mouthonfire: :mouthonfire: :onfire: :onfire:

Been doing alot of dehydrating this weekend. The few bags I had of frozen hot peppers yielded about 4-5 oz. Took about 22 hours. I've got some Chocolate and Red Trinidad Scorpions, and Yellow 7 Pod/Pervuin White Habs going right now, these are fresh, so I will see how long these take. :onfire: :onfire: :hell: :hell:

Cheers!

I wouldn't think to dehydrate previously frozen foods? those would get cooked or sauced. Fresh is the best especially vine ripe fruits and vegetables. I can tell you that a thin skinned Naga Morich's sliced open or cut in half should take 12 to 14 hrs at 140 where as a Jalapeno cut in half can take 18 to 20 hrs at the same temp. If you decide to smoke your peppers, You'd want to dehydrate them half way then put them in the smoker, some peeps do the opposite but you'll keep the dehydrator clean my way....keep expiermenting and good luck
