chinense Carolina Reaper confirmed the world's hottest pepper

I have no clue. All of my stuff went to Ed but he used ours and his in many ways..sauce, mash, seeds, cancer research, pod testing for record. I'd assume some of ours got in there but I can't honestly say for sure. Ed would have to answer that one.

I mentioned about multiple samples because this is the first time 1.5+ million scoville has been used.  Before this, even from Ed himself, it was 1.474 million.  Doesn't matter either way, but that's the reason I said multiple samples
 
Even in the articles published recently Ed states the 1.474.  He also just updated the site with the new bumber but the google spiders haven't picked it up yet so google still shows the old.  Hell, even that number gets the record.
 
He's got to be stoked.

I also grow thousands of each and can say for 100% certainty they are not the same pepper. Is a black naga and chocolate bhut the same? How about a moruga and brainstrain (red or yellow). shall I go on because I can name quite a few chile peppers that "look" the same.
 
the name on the "sample" isnt going to be on the final doc he gets in 10 days. The Official name is (and always has been) Smokin Eds Carolina Reaper which he also just got the official trademark for this past week. 
 
There will always be doubters and there will always be those who gawk at those that have actually done something very unique. So be it.
I have the official documents from them in my inbox directly from them. It is legit and it is the record. Ed will have the official document in 10 days and I would assume in that same time frame the Guinness site will be updated accordingly. 
 
oh and I had to edit for the comment about what he paid Guinness for the record.
1. Do some fact checking..you dont Pay them for any record of any type, they are the record keeper, nothing more. They dont do the testing
2. IF you choose to pay them money they will expedite the fact checking process but that is all
3. A lot of money was spent yes, but that was on developing, growing and testing for many years.

#1 Are you say he didn't pay Guinness for the record but he Did Pay Guinness to expedite the fact checking process, So isn't that paying them money? Didn't Ed say he payed Guinness $10,000 and I say if someone payed that kind of money I would give them a World Record too.

#2 Genetically where did the Stinger come from a Hab doesn't have a stinger and Naga doesn't have stingers that I have seen, so genetically it shouldn't have a stinger IMO.

I just wanted to wish you congrats for your hand in it.
 
There was a lot of moving the field goal during the kick. There were personnel changes on Ed's entry (the person taking care of his). a lot of resubmitting of data to them. Guinness seems to be VERY slow at actually giving the new record out for peppers..could be due to all the entries and changes after the bhut. This is just personal opinion but I think they want to slow down on giving the record because of some quick changes..like the viper, the infinity (I think it had the record literally for 1 day). That is just an opinion though, no facts to back that up.
And quite frankly even when Jim wanted it for the moruga..its not that he didnt try, they just seemed to have REALLY tightened up the standards you have to meet for them to give the record. Ive known ed for about a year now, close friends for probably 6-8. He has submitted a TON of data to them and they kept wanting more and more and more. Obviously they were finally content. So anyone that thinks he paid (which is complete bogus considering they dont get paid by entries), or got this without work obviously has no clue how much hard work he put into this. He jumped through many hoops they put up for him. I would have gave up a LONG time ago but he was sure of his product (as am I) and was persistent. 

So if you pay next day shipping for a package they give you the product free? As you can imagine Guinness most likely has a LOT of entries to go through for various records. yes if you want put at the front of the priority list you can pay for that. Nothing evil about that.
 
Im not a scientist so you'll have to ask Ed on the tail but I know what the cross is and it is factual. Won't argue about it with you.

I don't see anyone in this thread is saying it's a Primo, or another chile pepper in disguise.  Maybe I missed it.  It seems many see the "naga x habanero" cross claim as quite perplexing - given the strong similarities to other varieties.  Either way, it's cool to see a new cross get the record. Congrats!
 
 
Congrats to Ed for this! No matter the stance of someone, its nice to see his work paying off. That's not say other individuals don't work just as hard or harder because they do!

As for the tail on this one, in terms of genetics I don't know of any way besides categorize each gene of the pepper itself to see what caused the tail. Maybe it was a Naga Viper crossed with a hah? We'll never know unless the DNA was looked at. Then looking at the DNA of other suspect peppers.

But congrats to Ed and his crew, good job.
 
I agree other than im not sure I would say there are hotter ones out there. It would take one hell of a pepper to peak higher than 2.2 and average over 1.5..but I do agree there are some others out there that are damn close to that average  :P
 
All we are saying. Is how in the world to you get a Reaper from a Habanero and a Naga??? The two together just dont add up. It reminds me of breeding a barracuda with a dolphin and somehow you get a great white shark. Im not saying its not true it just doesnt make sense.
 
congrats to Ed and team for the creation of a hot tasty pepper that i grow and eat and will continue to do so! there was quite a bit of variace in the 6 plants i grew but the flavor stayed the same as did the level of heat so it will once again be grown at my house! maybe even throw it in the hydro bucket and see what kind of monster i can create.

well i know two simple things
 
the only sweet habanero there is, is Zavory and never heard/seen, any Nagas come from Pakistan. Actually Pakistani pepper are most if not all are  C.Annuum and C. Frutescens. never seen a C.Chinense from Pakistan .

judy there is indeed a sweet habanero it is a small red lantern shaped pod plant is super prolific very little to no heat and they taste wonderful, i have decised to grow it this year
