caveman's hot pepper and spice grow

Hello everyone!
I have decided to put my efforts into growing some hot peppers while I am out of work waiting on surgery. I severed my radial nerve at my job last November and will be having surgery done soon.

Anyways I have been a gardener for a long time and I worked professionally at my university for seven years.

Following the forums here and there until I decided to sit down here at THP to plant my roots.

A little about the grow:
I current have germinated several red and yellow ghost chilies that I received last year from a friend out of state. Last week I received in the mail twenty or so Carolina reaper seeds from puckerbutt pepper company. Next week I should be receiving several more strains, My grow list consists of 7 pot, red yellow and brown ghost, red yellow and brown scorpions, butch t, trinidad moruga, tree habeneros, devils tongue, fish pepper, twilight numex, black Cuban and a few others.

Just today I bought some new toys to help along with my venture:

My set up is going to be as follows:
4x4 gorilla tent
400w-600w hps w/digital adjustable ballast
Hyper Fan by phresh 6" @ 315cfm
Phresh filter 6"x24" 550cfm
General hydroponics water farm

As I said my seeds just began to sprout on my red and yellow ghost,

just testing the light and making sure it is in working condition after a hour long drive and a long dirt road.

As for my thyme, oregano, and chives they will most likely be done in soil still at the drawing board on that one.

I hope this is posted in the right section as I will update periodically with more information. Thanks for checking it out! Any feed back is appreciated.

Looks good, great plant list. Some tasty chiles there.

You planning to put them out this year? Or are you overwintering them?

How long is the grow season in your area?

Plan on starting them inside then move to a 5 gallon bucket beginning next year.

The grow season is pretty long where I am but the winter can be very harsh. Sometimes reaching extremes of -11 like last year was. Summer reaches peaks of 116 I have grown some very hot peppers here though and have had plants make it through the winter. Just keep an eye on everything and all is well I have learned.

I plan to have a tarp layed down and have something like 5x10 5 gallon buckets then building a greenhouse over them for the future. I liked the idea of hanging pepper plants and think I will do a couple like that.
Big plans and pictures to follow suit.

Thank you again for the replies.

Well three more ghost sprouted and they were still attached to seed hull. Delicately removed the hull but I'm afraid I will lose those three ghosts now. They look ill. But I have two more that just popped and still waiting on my reapers.

Picked up a few mechanical timers for my pumps and lighting along with a hygrometer ducting and hose clamps. Will put up final build pictures next week when I receive my last few pieces. Thanks for looking.

Bummer about the ghosts with helmet head. I just leave the heads on.  I have had some fight their way our after a month or more.  If it can't fight off the seed head by itself it was not meant for this world

Yeah at least I tried giving them a fighting chance. But through all my education just do as the Beatles said and "let it be" when dealing with new seedlings.

Pulled the one that sprouted but obviously would not have made it.

Lifted up one of the decent seedlings to check root growth and I must have dropped a seed because it had germinated and dropped the hull and was attempting to grow underneath the pellet. Haha! Transplanted to peat pellet and snapped a picture for you guys.

The 5 Reapers are marked with toothpicks on the right, no sprouts yet.

Also here is a picture of a chocolate douglah that my buddy grew.

The tent came today. I was asleep and FedEx called me and asked where exactly do I live "I am in a very remote location far from civilization" they were lost on the dirt roads and I give them directions and said I will be there in 15 minutes.

So I climes out of bed and washed my face next thing I know the FedEx van is coming down my drive.

My package was supposed to arrive tomorrow with my filter and fan. But it came early.

Enough words here's some pictures.

Thanks for the good wishes.

I ordered it from growers house Com on amazon. Rather than going to growershouse website because it was cheaper on amazon and free shipping. 368$ for the tent 4x4x8 this is my first actual tent I have ever owned so I went with the best thing on the market. It's very heavy duty and super strong. I weigh 227lbs 6ft 2" tall and the frame supported me hanging from the top. Haha.

Nice setup man...looks like I'm going to have to setup my 7'x7'x7' grow tent and get my 6-module DWC grow system installed to keep up with you man...;)
Haha the cool thing about your 6module is you can keep the res outside of the tent and not worry about the light heating it up. And makes it easier to add your notes and water

The thing I really do like about the GGT is that the material is so thick. And the frame is a beast. It was simple to put together and they even gave me a carrying case made out of the same material that the whole thing will fit into when off season or whatever haha.

Have you had experience with that brand of tent before? I would just think that if the size would be like that it would just be better off converting a room unless that tent would be going into a garage. Still +1

I have not used any but I am thinking of making through building or buying a large grow area in an unfinished basement. The basement is roughly 1800 square feet and I would use maybe 500.

More toys today.
I have been digging and tilling a garden plot for next year from 9am to 5pm so I will upload pics of install after a nice rest and cold shower. I can already feel the blisters forming on my back from not wearing a shirt in the 100 degree sun all day.

Nahhh use the whole 1800! And let it over grow up the entrance lol

Nice setup, caveman. Are you SURE that you're gonna use it to grow peppers? :liar: An if you have a big eared brother around there somewhere you should get him to flap them near your back to ease that sunburn!
