#1622779 When and why you started growing peppers

Posted by MtlPeppah on 27 March 2019 - 05:55 PM

The year was 2007. Had just about the Red Savina Habanero, but could find any seeds as everyone was sold out. Then heard about bhut Jolokia - here too had a hard time finding seeds. Finally ordered some from Nicky's Nursery in Great Britain. Planted all ten seeds - only nine sprouted. Gave five plants away and my four plants died a couple of weeks later. What a disaster. Later that Autumn one of the people whom I gave a plant to called me to tell me that he had so many pods he did not know what to do with them. The next day I had a bunch of pods to deseed for next season! Have been growing them since!

In Canada neem oil is illegal for use in agricultural applications. But you can still legally get it for skin care applications. Just order it from Amazon and you'll have no issues importing it!

Aphids as previously stated. Struggling with them since October of last year and only now seem to have got them under control. One or two still pop up and get crushed real fast! Lost an amazing chocolate habanero plant to them!
My method of choice to control them is;
1 - Crush as many as you can for starters.
2 - 350ml water, 3ml Dawn original (blue not concentrated), and 3ml need oil. Shake vigorously and apply via spray bottle every three days. Your trying to break the life cycle of these little critters by doing so. Best time to spray is sundown or before your grow lights are turned off - as with exposure to light you plants will get damaged.
3 - Add permethrine including solution to you mixture if you so desire (in very minute amounts).
4 - Avoid feeding the plants for the first month of treatment.

Good luck

Yes, all very different from one another. I have 12 seedlings growing from the seeds harvested. Already 1 1/2" long. All germinated in 8 days.

I purchased the very same pack of peppers here in Montreal about two weeks ago. LOL same spelling mistake on the label. Include four Reapers' and four ghosts.
I left a similar response when post first started and my reply disappeared. Where did it go????(+_+).

#1595815 The Great Chilli farm.

Back around 2007 I purchased seeds from a place called the Great Chilli farm located in Capetown South Africa. I haven't been able to track them down on the web except for one internet article on Pinterest. Does anybody know the company and what may have happened to it. Just curious! Thanks!
