Silver_Surfer's season starts

I had already told myself I had more than enough chilies stored from this years crop and I was finished harvesting peppers this season and I would only pick a few fresh pods as needed for the remainder of this year, but then I went and bought this,...

so naturally I needed a few pods to test it and give it a thorough workout.

I just hope it out performs my overworked Nesco.

Good golly miss molly that is a pile of pods SS. Your harvest keep amazing us with your ability to grow some mighty fine pepper plants. The commercial size dehydrator is probably still not big enough to fit all your pods and still need to be done in shifts. Nicely done. :)

Thanks Cappy. Shifts yes, I just hope they're shorter shifts. The Nesco's drying time increases dramatically once I exceed 7 trays and this box can easily hold twice what the Nesco will and hopefully do the job quicker. I'll know soon enough. :)

The dehydrator was $218 delivered, same price as a 3900 only larger capacity, stainless, and more room between the tray levels (1-1/4 inch). Within the next few days I'll know if it's worthy.
Well, when pods get so hot they sear your senses it gets really difficult to tell which is hotter and at that level of heat it really doesn't matter which is a few points higher on the scale, but if I had to pick one it would be the Douglah x Scorpion (brown pod) or a Brown 7. Either one will quickly make you wish you hadn't eaten the whole thing. :mouthonfire:
 
simply amazing. pods looks abolutely wonderful. love the long purple ones in the bottom picture - what variety are they?
 
Excellent harvest pics as usual and very jealous of the dehydrator. Should make it much easier on you for next season as well :dance: I am glad you decided to do another harvest. It would be a shame to see all that love turn into compose. :)

Wow..........Those are some evil "Bloody Red" looking pods ya have there...
Nice dehydrator, I bet that has a larger fan than most...What's the low end temperature?

Thanks Jamie. Well, there's a LOT more out there, both green and ripe and I also hate to see pods go to waste and that was the reason for the larger dehydrator. Two dehydrators going full bore at once make the aroma in here twice as intense and enjoyable. :)

I haven't measured the fan, but it is doing the job and surprisingly quieter running than the Nesco. The temp range on the dial goes from 95F to 155F, but that isn't accurate and according to my Taylor thermometer when the dial is set at 125F it stays within a temp range of 110F up to a peak of 118F the short time the heating element is on and that's where I'll leave it set.

Great calendar shot there SS! Those Douglah x Scorpion #2's look alot more like scorpions than the other ones. They have a shiny thicker looking skin. Any chance you could take a picture of the inside? Hoping it has the thicker more velvety flesh of the scorpion... And of course more of the scorpion taste.

Oh your powder was awesome! I love the hint of sweetness to it. It was still to hot for my wife.. but my 3 year old wanted to be just like dad and sprinkled it all over his buttered corn. It was pretty hot for him, but he kept coming back for more and more bites holding a big glass of juice in the other hand. I will try and get a video of him next time.

Those pods are presently in the dehydrator, but I'll grab a few more the next time I'm in the garden. One of the four crosses this season looks more like a scorp, 2 look more like a Douglah and one chocolate. You've had 2 of the types, I'll see about sending you the third.

Glad you liked the powder, but surprised your wife thought it too hot. Cool your youngster wants to follow his old man. :)
 
my trinidad scorpions look like your 7pot primos. Wonder if I somehow was given the wrong seed. Given so I am not arguing. As always your pods look wonderful.
