seeds Best source for large Jalapeno seeds?

I've been looking for a new source for Large Jalapenos. I used to get them from pepperlover.com, but I got sick of them turning out to be something besides what I bought. Last year almost half of my plants turned out to be some kinda of Poblano looking peppers, not Jalapenos. So I bought seeds...

    seeds Problems Germinating PepperLover Seeds

Here's my 2 cents on PL. I've ordered from her for the last 3 years. After last year I quit though. The seeds all seem to sprout ok, except for regular Red Ghost, they didn't do much. This year I used last years 7 Pot Yellow Brain Strain seeds, and got 100 % germination. My biggest complaint is...

seeds When do seedlings need light?

depending on what kind of lights you're using, 3 inches might be too hot for really small seedlings. Don't fry them. Let them adjust first, with the lights far enough away not to burn them, and move them closer as they acclimate.

    lighting When to add lights?

I have mine setup the same way (heat pad, humidity dome), but I've had my lights on them since they were started. My first one is just starting to hook, so after a while, i'll open the vents on the dome, and slide it off angle from the tray so cut down on surface humidity. Then I'll just remove...

my advice for new growers (2015)

I'm really ok with it, I skip a lot of the those type questions. I just want people to be able to get their answers. Pics help that immensely. And paying attention, like Jedi stated.

my advice for new growers (2015)

hey jedi, not trying to harsh your mellow, but you've been on this site for years like myself. how often do people post topics like "spots on my leaves" or "plants not doing well" with no pics to back it up?

my advice for new growers (2015)

POST PICTURES!!!! Seriously, when asking for advice, the best advice is to have pics, and all info for what you're doing. Fertz, heat, pH, light, etc. I'm no expert, but I learned a lot on this site, from people's past experiences. PICS HELP!!!   PS, don't ask for a pepper ID on a 2 week...

    Trinidad perfume leaves yellow :(

lack of light will cause leaves to yellow too, if the top is looking nice, and can take the heat, leave the light where it's at. They don't look that bad. if it starts to yellow all the way up the plant, then it's fertz, or rootbound, but not in your case, I wouldn't think.

    Poop talk

i get horse manure from the stable down the street and add it in every fall, and sometimes in the spring. i'll quit putting any manure in the garden 2 months or so before I plant, and till once or twice before I plant too. the pile I get it from is about 8 feet tall, so I dig into the bottom for...

OhioGrown 2014, second time around, 4-6-14 update.

Thanks Devv, I think next year i'll start them a month later than I did this year. I still have about 6 weeks or so before I can plant out, and they're getting too root-bound, and big, and out of control. . . .

OhioGrown 2014, second time around, 4-6-14 update.

well, today I gave everything a nice big soak with my compost tea. I accidentally doubled the Fish Fertz in it, but it was only 2 tablespoon, so it shouldn't matter much. It had a nice head of foam on it. Let's hope it irons out their little deficits here and there, and keeps them healthy for...

thanks guys. Jeff, I really like the 5.5" pots. Like you said, 8 to a tray, easy to organize and move around as well. I'm not sure i'll ever be able to get away from the 1 gallon pots. Some of my bigger plants in them already have roots coming out the bottom like crazy.

consistency jalapeno sauces are coming out too thick

whenever I made a Jalapeno based sauce, it was usually just peppers, enough vinegar to cover them in a sauce pan, and some salt, maybe some lime juice. I usually lightly boil the mix for a good 20 minutes or more, until the peppers are really soft, then blend, boil again and then bottle. I also...

    Tomato paste

I've used it before to thicken up some salsas that I made last year. I always followed the standard precautions. I never used it for sauce itself though.

thanks jeff, you know as well as I do how hard this winter's been here in Ohio. Looks like we might finally be out of the single digit lows now, and getting into the 50's and 60's during the day...

I was more interested in insulating my grow "box", the reflective side was an added bonus. It was kinda a pain to cut, it got Styrofoam all over the place.
