contest Growdown Throwdown 2019 Sri Lanka - Chilli Red!

Seeds received.  Thank you Sir!   Your return package is ready to go out, but I forgot to get stamps.  Will send as soon as my lame-brain will allow.       In the meantime, the Laboratory is ready!

contest Growdown Throwdown 2019 Sri Lanka - Chilli Red!

We've all heard stories of schools being hysterically evacuated because Little Johnny brought a few stupid-hot pods to share with the other Little Terrors.  I wouldn't be surprised if THP is periodically scanned by a Nanny State Security Bot, looking for juicy key phrases like "capsaicin...

Dude, thanks for the inspiration!   With several gallons of kerosene left over from last year's efforts, I'll be adding red fuming nitric acid to my 2019 list of Seed Accelerants.  The two chemicals spontaneously, and vigorously!, combust when mixed, and are indeed used as rocket fuel. ...

I'm only now getting around to sending my SASE, and see that I've missed the cut-off date. Derp!   If  some kind soul could send me 2 or 3 seeds, I'd appreciate it.  Will send SASE or PP a buck to cover your efforts.   Thanks

    Hay, Yew Texans!!

Dammit!  So. Aridzona is usually near the cheap end, but we're still stuck in the 2.30 zone.

    How cold is too cold?

High 30s stress the plants, but should not cause any permanent harm. Bring them in before you get a hard freeze!

    Annuum for the grill?

I might have some Nu-Mex type seeds in my collection.  Lemme dig around later today.   EDIT Found some Joe E Parker and NuMex Conquistador seeds. Holler if you have trouble finding a local source - I'll send you a few.

    Annuum for the grill?

The 'Nu-Mex' / southwest varieties are very popular roasted and grilled.  Sandia Seed has a good selection. https://www.sandiaseed.com/collections/green-chile-seeds I've grown their Big Jim Legacy and 6-4 Heritage and love both.

contest Growdown Throwdown 2018 Yellow Brain Strain!

Put me down for ~1.4kg in total.  I stopped weighing a while back, right around 1200g, with the poor plant beset by hornworm and wind damage.  It's got maybe a dozen pods left.

can i pinch first set of true leaves?

Where on Earth do people get these loony ideas?     Yea, the plant has just spent ALL its energy germinating and building those two big leaves. And whacking them off is supposed to give it mutant superpowers or something?

    soil Opinions? Kellogs soil

How did your test end?   My 2018 "trial" with Kellogg's Raised Bed and Potting Mix did not go well, with sickly plants struggling all year.  i don't know if it was a bad batch or what, but the plants never "took off" in any way.   A month ago I bought a bag of FFOF, tossed in some seeds, and...

    overwintering Overwintering, doing it wrong...

I don't understand why everyone always wants to rip the leaves off their plants.     Leave the poor things alone!  If they are getting enough heat and light to make leaves worthwhile, they will retain them.  If it's too cold or dark, the plant will re-absorb some of the leaves'...

Be sure to dry and powder a few of them!  IMO these are one of the best ground peppers I've grown.

contest Growdown Throwdown 2018 Yellow Brain Strain!

They've been out under the cloth for about 1 1/2 weeks.  The weather has been overcast and cool, so they I was really uncertain just how sun-toughened they had become.  Having zorched dog-knows how many young plants over the last few years, I was afraid I'd done it again.  Fortunately they...

seeds First time growing, worried about seedlings' health

The narrow stem is due to fungus, which grows in overly moist soil.  Using less water should cure the issue.   Don't worry about the leaf tips.

contest Growdown Throwdown 2018 Yellow Brain Strain!

YEA!!!     The plants appear to have survived my first serious attempt at killing them!   Was futzing about a few evenings ago and forgot to put them back under the 30/70 shade cloth that they've been hiding under for the last while.  Got home the next day day to find them...
