    Growing peppers in Southern States

Southern Aridzona...   Overwintering is usually a breeze.  Although 20s and even high teens are possible, they are rare.   The last hard freeze was about 3 years ago. I don't think it broke 30 even once last "winter."   I think I covered the bigger plants (too big to bring into the shed) about 5...

Beautiful colors but my God that 7 Pot is hot

By my humble (WIMP!!!) standards, Aji Cito is already damned hot! I grew an Orange 7 pot two years ago and found it delicious but - as you say - unfathomably hot.  I'd take a tiny nibble of the thing, enjoy the fantastic taste, then sweat and suffer for 5+ minutes.  After about 20 min, I'd feel...

    Light Green Leaves?

Good stuff, IMO.  Your plants should come down with a nice case of Bat Crap Fever within the week!

    sun Too much sun/heat?

Yea, a touch of mid-day ~> afternoon shade would be good. As would dropping them into a bigger pot, or placing a tray of water beneath.  (Assuming you have drain holes in the buckets, get a kiddy swimming pool - fill with an inch of water and place pots inside.  Problem likely solved!)   IMO...

Heat warnings: Do you pay attention?

Pffft!  Here Aridzona, every day from April to mid-October is a "Heat Warning!!" day!   :fireball:   Seriously - my attitude is "Oh, 116 tomorrow. That sucks, but.... whatever.  Guess I'd better give the plants a little more water."

How do you mark your plants?

I use the thick paper tags + twist ties (look like tall, short flags) from the grocery's bulk department. (Dark chocolate pretzels - YUM!) A fat "extreme permanent" marker works well as a marker.  The 'normal' sharpie pens fade badly in the Aridzona sun.   The tags can be wrapped around a stem...

    Stetto's First Winter Grow ('16-'17)

Just keep a goat on hand at all times, to sacrifice in case hail threatens.

heat Ed Currie's newest hottest pepper

I get the strong impression that the dude has a huge ego.  (Fertilized with too much high Nitrogen bullshit?   :D  )

I fell in love with Angelo

Sweet (but not overwhelmingly so), with an unusual 'berry' like flavor.  Very little heat.  Big, bushy, prolific.

    wanted ISO: SFRB - Non-nuclears?

Give it another month, when there will be plenty of "for sale" ads.  :)

I fell in love with Angelo

A Bishop's Hat hybrid would take you into an utterly unknown, "interesting" realm.  :)

    water Water only when drooping?

A dehydrated plant is not going to be doing as much photosynthesis as it should.  IMO, if they're getting this way several times a week, their productivity will suffer.

    Best way to dry pods?

I've got an electric turkey roaster that works well.  Just spread them out and set the dial near the bottom of the temperature range.   Leave the top off, of course.  ~120f+ is enough to dry pods in a day or two, particularly if you split them lengthwise.  A pan and electric hot plate will do...

    What's up with the weather?

Brutal late June temps....   There is relief in sight (literally!) in the form of monsoonal moisture creeping up from the SE.  Storms fired within about 20 miles of Tucson today.  Give it another week or two and we'll hopefully be rolling in thunderstorms and something called "rain."  :)

    Are 9 plants too many?

That's 1.75 square feet per plant.  IMO, you've got plenty of soil volume, but available light will be limited, particularly for the non-corner plants.  Your plants will do fine, and produce plenty of peppers, but they won't grow as large as they would with more resources. IMO, you're slightly...

fertilizer What's the best fertilizer for peppers

Bat Crap from insect eaters is freaking awesome.  It's fast acting and, from what I can tell, is pretty much a complete fertilizer.   I'm a little leery of possible potassium issues, but after two years of use, my plants completely love the stuff, and I've seen no obvious K-deficient symptoms...

    Clear Solo Cups?

Is the algae even supposed to be harmful?  I too like clear, for the reasons listed above.  The inevitable green growth looks startling, but I can't see any sign that it's hurting the pepper.  If anything, a little extra O2 in the soil is probably going to stimulate the micro-bugs living there.

    fertilizer When do you fertilize?

So much depends on the soil you're using, watering habits, container-vs-ground, etc.... FWIW, I fertilize with Fish Soup and/or (now that the critters have returned to town) fresh Bat Poop, whenever the new growth starts to look a little pale.  (About 2x a month at the moment.)  I'm big on the...

    Jalapeno plant disease

And a fairly harmless pest at that.  Unless you've got a lot of the buggers, the damage looks far worse than it is.
