    Yep, that's the one.

hybrid What happens when you breed copyrighted peppers?

Correct. Additionally, in theory you could even breed and sell sexually reproduced offspring from patented plants, as long as they were materially different from the parents. However, Monsanto has more money than any hobbiest gardener, and their lawyers could easily bankrupt the average small...

hybrid What happens when you breed copyrighted peppers?

The copyright protects the name, not the genetic makeup of the pepper. You can grow the white bullet and sell it under another name if you want. However any reference, no matter how oblique, to the copyrighted name would land you in hot water. Calling it 'White Projectile' would be asking for...

breeding What is your system for tracking and tagging crosses?

Yes for a month or two, long enough to harvest the pod. Make sure you use ink that won't run or bleed. I try to keep the original tags in the bag with the seeds afterward as well.

    So another "not" pepper.

Yep, what's surprising is that I haven't gotten any larger, bhut sized pods at all. They're all small or very small bird pepper size. And the leaves are all annuum-like.

    So another "not" pepper.

Of my 4 Jabooty (Bhut brown x Jamaican Bird) F2s to produce pods, I have gotten 1 brown, 2 reds, and 1 that is peachy white and appears to be seedless and sterile, judging by the first two pods to ripen fully. The original cross only produced 5 seeds and only 1 sprouted. The F1s pods are...

You need to prep with Nigel's cap cramp preventative. Recipe is somewhere here.

    So another "not" pepper.

I hear you..., it's just that I had crossing projects planned for these, and a white 7pod, and a PDN, which didn't come true either.

    So another "not" pepper.

A few different sellers, I'd rather not name and shame, as these were clearly labeled and marketed as non-isolated seeds. Just a warning to others that it can happen. The upshot is, only isolated seed purchases for me in the future though.

    So another "not" pepper.

This one is a Not Gator Gigsaw. Seriously over not getting what I ordered. More thsn 50% of my recent seed purchases ended up being other than expected.

breeding New cross: how many plants do you keep in each generation?

That depends on your climate, in the tropics and subtropics (or in a greenhouse) you could keep a selection alive indefinitely through continued propagation. If you've ever bought F1 hybrid plants at retail, it is likely they've been reproduced through tissue culture from a single individual...

breeding New cross: how many plants do you keep in each generation?

Just a consideration that every named variety of orange, lemon, grapefruit, apple, pear, avocado, mango, lychee, etc...started with a single exceptional plant and was asexually reproduced from that single individual. That can be done with peppers too.

    What is going on here?

How old/big are these plants? If they are large enough you can apply a foliar minor element spray. I use this. CHELATED GENERAL PURPOSE MINOR ELEMENT SPRAY • Can be used on all plants including lawns • Contains 6 important nutrients including iron • Prevents & corrects deficiencies that cause...

breeding New cross: how many plants do you keep in each generation?

Well since the bird peppers were basically wild, there's no telling what is hiding in their gene pool. Also the Brown Bhut was from Pepperlover, so again, no telling what was actually in it.

breeding New cross: how many plants do you keep in each generation?

F1 generation, just a couple, F2 at least 6, cause most of them will be different. Of my F2 Jabootys I've gotten 3 red, 1 brown and 1 peach so far, i have two more waiting for fruit. They also have different shapes, some are more bird pepper like and some are more bhut like. I'm only saving...

flavor Which 5k-25k Scoville peppers do you like the taste of most?

Fresnos are also a good choice for lower heat similar to Jalapeno, and taste great when fully ripe. Perhaps with Serranos, Jalapenos, and Fresnos, you'll get a good flavor with the right level of heat.
