Blender and mason jars is what I use.  Works great and they're already in their storage container, so no transfer necessary.  I get a nice fine grind with that method.

I had a quad cotyledon plant last year.  It grew normal for me.

Let it sit on the plants a bit longer and see if it goes to red.  The Jimmy Nardelos I've been growing the past 2 years go from green -> brown -> red.

It most likely got shocked from being dug up.  Probably didn't enjoy losing some of it's root mass.  The fact that it is perking up is a good sign.  Just give it more time.

As a mulch it should not be much trouble.  If it was incorporated into the soil then you would probably experience some issues at least in the first year for acidity, nitrogen robbing, and growth inhibiting due to the lignin found in conifers.

How can you tell if the soil food web is active in your new RCW  garden bed? Check out the picture below. This is the new bed I built a couple of months ago.  

Sauce looks great.  Love the look of the bits of cilantro suspended in the sauce.   As for reducing PH.  You really won't know how much or how little acid to use without having a PH meter to test with.  Having said that, with the amounts of  ingredients you used, it may have been acidic enough...
