    CMPMAN1974 Growing Log - 2014 Season

Brilliant pics as always Chris, I can always count on you for incredible pictures and varieties that I either hadn't heard of or at least haven't yet grown, speaking of which, how does the 7 pot evergreen taste, unless I misread the pic said cross, so I assume u grew the evergreen last season

    shade Shade Cloth

I'm pretty much in the exact spot you are in Tennessee, here in NC, summertime temps avg between 90-100, w/ the occasional 100-110 temps but we got humidity over here where the don't have as much out west, the reason I say that is peppers love heat and humidity mine are in full sun in black...

harvesting Average time from fruit set to harvest

mostly I don't pick til ripe! That being said, the longer they are on the plant the more the flavor will develope until they ripen! If I had to give an avg 3-6 weeks from full size pods til ripe!

First time grow, how are these looking? [UK]

if I were you, I would continue doing as you are doing! Your plants seem very healthy and are starting to get flowers, soon they will have pods! Are your containers big enough? 15 liters, a little over 4 gals right, that's fine, might they get bigger in a bigger pot sure, but I've grown plenty...

Can't decide on a paprika pepper

Sheepnose are awesome for roasting and stuffing! Mmmmm. That being said, here are some I would recommend for paprika: Allepo Alma Gochu Fehron Antohi Garnet Realistically, any thin skinned red annums, will make some type of paprika, there are six classes of paprika in Hungary, ranging from sweet...

Is this a normal size for 1.5 capsicum chinense?

Are you outside temps in the 60's at least at night, I looked like you are growing outside, right?

Is this a normal size for 1.5 capsicum chinense?

I don't mean to criticize, but those seedlings are a bit small for 6 weeks (understandable for a rookie grower and plants recovering from overwatering) and you are telling me you have 12 week old seedlings that are only that big! I'm not trying to be mean, but something is missing brotha! You...

well kept seeds are viable for many years, I just germinated seeds from 2008 and 2010 this year, and they are good sturdy healthy plants!

Ii wonder was he growing 7 pot evergreen, or green scorpions near his jays red, because those are the only two peppers in my albeit limited experience that ripen to green.

    My Dwarf Caribbean Red

Doesn't necessarily have to be fish emulsion that's just what a lot of us here use to give our plants nitrogen when we don't want to use chemical certs. If you are going all natural or organic, I recommend fish emulsion and seaweed extract, if you are not concerned, I would recommend a 24-8-16...

Location means everything for peppers doesn't it?

I personally love overwintering, if I could grow outside all year round I would, but we have 3-31\2 months of decent frosts around here so..... Overwintering, makes your life so much better, ever since I read pepper gurus OW thread I been OWing at least a few plants, this last year was a trgedy...

    Potting mix recipe advice

Screw those commi, pinko, anaerobic bacteria, not liking oxygen, that's just plain UnAmerican! That sounds like you should be good to go, but a little fish emulsion and seaweed extract wouldn't hurt even w/ the compost and manure, just my $.02 american, what's that a schilling and a 1\3 ;)

    Potting mix recipe advice

The two most important things any living thing can get are oxygen and water, as long as your soil is loose enough for the roots to get air and porus enough to retain some water you should be fine, everything else is just gravy, nutes can be added, later, but the manure and compost will help with...

favorite What is your favorite Cayenne?

yes I know all about the Cajun trinity, I was being fececious, complaining about putting down one variety and then turning around and putting down another variety! I grow bells every year too! I often have to explain my sense of humor, its a little weird I guess!

shade Pepper varieties that prefer shade

I also can't help you here, my peppers get sun from 7am-8pm and the only shade they ever get is if it goes above 100 for many days in a row, the. I try to pull them to a spot where the get a break from1-3 or so, except the annuums which are In ground but don't seem to have a problem with the...
