    Microbial question

My theory would be whatever your big guns out perform, they were superior to anyway so good on them.  A plant actually dictates what inhabits its rhizosphere in the long run by what it chooses to secrete from its roots so its doubtful anything bad could happen..

tutorial A Simple Guide to Topping and Pruning

correct but most people grow them as annuals since they require sub tropic conditions year round but what I was really trying to do was make the distinction between a quick growing plant like a pepper compared to the 5 year wait for fruit on something like an apple tree.

Can I top and keep a Tomato Plant short and still produce?

you leave the first set of flowers removing all leaves from there down, this opens up the bottom allowing for more airflow and less chances of soil borne disease. From then on you remove all suckers that you dont want to become a secondary stem, as these divert energy away from the fruit.  As...

Can I top and keep a Tomato Plant short and still produce?

I'm going to try and be as succinct as possible here cause there's a lot of info and i strongly suggest you look into it further -   two types of maters, determinate (will only grow and fruit for so long then its done) don't prune a thing.  Indeterminate (will grow and fruit as long as...

seeds Seedlings with 1st / 2nd set of true leaves but damaged roots

given that plants cant get up and move they tend to be incredibly resilient, if they've survived  the transplant they will most likely survive you could see some slowing of growth but it should recover completely eventually.  What you transplanted them into has me more concerned especially since...

seeds Newbie...What's going on with my seedlings?

its most likely fertilizer burn.  It could be ph, i really have no idea what you have them planted in could be straight peat which case its a ph issue but Id go with over fert, the growth is all weird and almost bloated looking.  flush and repot in a good soil mix.

I pay my taxes suppossedley so the state can operate, when I ask them to do their job they want me to pay them for it ... and with a money order no less so it costs me even more money. I have the feeling it's to dissuade people from asking them to do anything.

seeds What's Wrong with My Seedling... slowly dying.

they look fine, you cant rush mother nature.  when something goes wrong its generally pretty obvious. get a seed mat if you want to speed them up a bit. dampening off is caused by fungus but the root cause is too much moisture.  Theres no dampening off on these plants its obvious when there is...

this is a bit of an over simplification but, if you till in a heavy carbon source like wood chips it will tie up the nitrogen in the soil while it turns the wood into compost. Pull it aside, amend or refill the beds put the mulch back on and re-top with fresh mulch. I go for 3in but this is...

    Growing Problems

Id say the growlight is working well as the plants are nice and dense and the leaves are a nice size.  Who's make is it? (I'm looking to get one)  90% of problems are moisture related. Too much can lock up nutrients so the plant cant use them.  Next would be over fertilization, be sure to follow...

seeds What's Wrong with My Seedling... slowly dying.

seedlings supply all their own nutritional needs, all they need is light and a little bit of water.  my guess would be its too wet. for seedlings the substrate should be like a rung out sponge.

7 Pot Peach fast to pod?

Haven't used them so i cant speak on the matter.  just know from personal experience you get a lot of problems from solo cups.  Did you mean 1 liter cause arent 2 liter bottles like 6in across?     "Solo Cups ruined my life! 7 Pot Peach fast to pod?

LOL bottomline, plastic cups make crap pots  because they're not designed for it. Plastic nursery trays are cheap and there are even cheaper methods available like soil blocks.
