    Tonly's 2011 grow log

The bed is 4 feet wide. The 1/2" pvc is clamped to the board but the clamps broke and so I just pushed the pipes down into the dirt a bit. I put some plastic over it grew lettuce, broccoli, and such. It won't support any kind of a snow load but definitely extends the season several weeks.

    Tonly's 2011 grow log

Felt like Spring here today even with the remains of more than 2 feet of snow on the ground. Potted up most of the c. chinense plants. Now have around 150 plants in #1 size pots. They're called trade gallon but only hold about 3 quarts so, I'm gonna call them #1's. This will be the final pot...

wanted Want to trade for Bhut/Naga & Trinidad Scorpion

I can hook you up with bhut jolokia. I think I have some scorpions too. I have lots of yellow 7 seed if you want that too. PM me your snail mail and I'll send 'em your way. What kind of tomato seed do you have to trade?

    raised-bed Raised Beds?

I always avoided pressure treated lumber because of the arsenic. Arsenic is no longer used so, I now consider it safe for garden use.

    A colorful collection

Fish pepper is green and white variegated foliage and the pods are also variegated until very ripe. Also, it's a pretty tasty pepper.

    WINTER BLUES

The state record for a single storm snow total in Arkansas: 25.0" in 1918. At 7:30 am I measured 22" in the middle of our street. Expecting 6" more today. Last week we set record low temps earlier in the same week set record high temps.  What to do? Hash browns...

    Too Much Light on Jolokias?

Make sure the pan has good drainage. They don't really like to have wet and soggy roots. Lookin' good. :)

    AJs 2011 Scorpion Project Plant

That last pic looks like what I call a mega bloom on tomatoes. 2 blooms fused and growing together. Might make one huge scorpion! I hope you have really tall ceilings in the house. That thing will be a monster come next Fall.

    Property/Garden Size

Almost my entire back yard is garden. Who needs a lawn any way? :) Mostly raised beds, 828 square feet of growing area. Depending on layout, about 1200 linear feet of row. For things that don't need as much room the linear feet can be much more. Not all of this is for peppers. I grow...

    Sugar Snap Peas

Ok, I see. If you can keep them above freezing, I bet they will do just fine. I've always direct seeded mine and had to wait for the soil to warm up. By transplanting you should have a good head start.

    Sugar Snap Peas

Those temps sound too cold to me. Maybe you could partition off part of your greenhouse and heat just part of it. If it is only one tray, I'd carry them in the house. Last fall my sugar snaps in the garden survived temps down in the mid 20's but they were full sized plants and in no danger...

    Patrick's 2011 Grow Log

I see that your fatali are 0 for 5. I had some going with several other varieties that germinated in 6 to 12 days. The fatali seeds took over 3 weeks then most sprouted. Had similar results last year. I thought at first it might be the particular seed batch but have had the same results with...

    Tonly's 2011 grow log

The poles are schedule 40 pvc electrical conduit. 2 wires overhead with nylon baler twine tied to 2 wires below. The only way it works is to keep the plants pruned back to one main growing point. The wires are nearly 10 ft high and the tomato plants will get there pretty fast. I just let...

    Lazies 2011 grow log

Lookin' good! I think I might have had a similar problem with a seedling mix with too much compost in it. Put the affected seedlings back in starter mix and they improved right away. I doubt it will be an issue once your plants are bigger and ready to go outside. I have used...

    Tonly's 2011 grow log

GH is 12X24 and probably between 7 and 8 feet tall in the middle. The snow pretty much slides off the plastic side without too much help from me. The metal north side not so much as the corrugations are running horizontally and hold on to the snow and ice. It is a really nice size but I...
