    Carving pumpkins

Here is a 10 minute jack-o-lantern I made this afternoon. This is a 25lb white pumpkin with a flat side. Because of the flat side, I carved the face looking up. The drool is just some seed and pulp. Two kids asked if it was a real pumpkin.

smokers Anyone built their own smoker?

Here is my new super ghetto cold smoker. The hot side is a used file cabinet, and the cold side is a used wall cabinet. I got the two cabinets at Community Forklift, which is an awesome store, for $7.40. Just like the flower pot smokers, the hot side uses a hot plate. After running for...

    RobbieWT's 2012 Grow Log

I haven't updated this in quite a while. In late march I had to leave home for a few weeks. While I was gone my parent were supposed to be taking care of the plants, but when I got home all of the plants were turning yellow and dropping leaves. Getting them back on a regular watering schedule...

event Peppers at the beach Delaware, 2012

I was out there for a couple of hours on Saturday. My usual plan for this kind of event is to do one lap for sampling milder sauces. This way I'll have a nice protective layer in my belly. Then I do a few laps for the hotter stuff. Less than ten minutes after getting there I here the words...

    Bhut Jolokia Growth Timeline

This is excellent. I'm probably a dozen miles east of you and I started my seeds Christmas day. Last year I grew Fataliis that followed your Bhut's schedule except 3 months later. Sadly my first Fataliis ripened in time for the Halloween snow. Did your plant maintain a good yield until the...

    RobbieWT's 2012 Grow Log

Today the UPS guy came and brought me my new grow light. It is a 4ft 4 tube fixture that included 4 6400k T5s. Now I can fit more plants under it without having to shuffle them around too much. The only problem is that this light can get pretty hot. But a fan can take care of that. The new...

    RobbieWT's 2012 Grow Log

It's been a couple of weeks since my last update. I was going to wait until mid February to start the Annuums and Lemon Drops, but I couldn't wait. I'm trying to get between six and nine of each. Some of the Chinenses are getting ready for bigger pots. Luckily my mom bought me a box of 180...

    RobbieWT's 2012 Grow Log

I'm no longer "in over my head." It was mostly trying to fit all the plants under a single 4 foot t5. I got a 72 cell container and now I have room to spare. I'll just have to slide it back and forth so the plants don't bend over too much. So far none of my Datils or Chocolate Habaneros...

    misc Peach Fatalii Mead

Thanks for the tip about the peaches. I'm thinking about making another batch but without the peppers. I had some this morning. It was freaking hot. I had trouble finishing a half shot glass. So I think this batch will last a while. At least there is some delicious flavor beneath the heat.

    RobbieWT's 2012 Grow Log

Christmas update! I started all of my chinenses today. It was between 8 and 12 seeds for 11 different varieties. I'm using my 4ft t5 grow light for keeping the seeds warm. I placed my manzanos in a plastic food service container so they can stay at a slightly higher temperature. It's pretty...

    misc Peach Fatalii Mead

I don't know if I should call this melomel, metheglin, capsicumel, or just mead. This is based on a simple mead recipe that my mom has been making for years. I just added a little more honey, peaches and fataliis. Usually my mom will make a five gallon batch, but I had no idea how hot this...

    RobbieWT's 2012 Grow Log

I got the Zimbabwe Bird seeds from Trade Winds Fruit. I've never tasted them or the Siling Labuyo, but the trade winds web site says the heat is up there with the habaneros. As far as the other veggies go, I can usually trade with my neighbors. In my neighborhood those Marketmore Cucumbers...
