    condiment Green salsa questions

I just boiled them last time and mixed everything in the blender. Added the peppers last so they'd be the chunkiest parts. When I do red tomatoes I use some raw romas. I may try the roasting thing if I'm in the mood for it sometime.

    Repotting

I like the gradual thing too. I'm going to have to go bigger than 3 gal on some of mine and it's going to be a bitch move them to their new homes at this point. I went 9oz - 4" - 1 gal - 3 gal this year. Perhaps next time I'll go 3"+ - 1 gal - 5 gal for the ones that are gonna get real big.

    Horrible Weather!!!

Had a downpour here after dark last night with a lightning show that was like a continuous strobe light for 30 minutes or so. Not much wind, thankfully, and no obvious damage. I used to live in the lightning capitol of the world!

    Leaves Sagging

You can have the moisture level right and they'll still droop when it gets really hot. Especially if the containers are heating up the soil temperature. With mine, I consider them OK if the wilting goes away when the shade comes on them around 4 - 5 PM. I also use the poke-the-drain-hole method...

    condiment Green salsa questions

OK, I'll go equal parts tomatillo and peppers and then add onion to taste. Don't have serranos so it'll be good ol' jalapenos with a bit of other hot, but not superhot, greenies. The recipes I found said 1 1/2 lb of tomatillos and 1 - 2 jalapenos. Seeded. After I got done  I just added...

Hilarious! Have you cured the boy now? Like making him smaoke a whole pack of cigarettes to get him not to smoke?

    Culling Carnage

Actually I was thinking the same thing the other day. Right now I'm keeping the small ones in (4) shallow totes so the water doesn't get away as easy. I have 3 larger ones in a wheelbarrow. The flaw in the plan is what happens when it rains real hard or for a log time - they get more water than...

    condiment Green salsa questions

Made my first fresh green salsa yesterday and boy howdy, is it hot! I mean compared to the same thing in the red version. Only basic difference in my recipe being tomatillos instead of tomatoes and paste etc. So... Do the tomatoes in red salsa tame the heat that much? Or is it the extra...

    Winter in June

Don't we all... don't we all. I'd be happy in Margaritaville, watching the icebergs float by. Yes, I'm drunk-posting. Why do you ask? Hey! It's past noon!! What are you looking at.

    Horrible Weather!!!

Holy Crap Batman! Was that first bolt both behind AND in front of the house?!?! Rest of the video is still buffering... Ok, I gotta believe that was some kind of artifact of the video process... or not.

    pickling Greek pepperoncini pickle test

And... we have liftoff! Opened the Fruit Fresh jar first and they do have a slightly better color. The pepper we tasted was a small to medium sized one but I can't tell what ripeness it had been. He took a bight, swallowed it, and took another bight. Yay !!! The seeds were nice and white, no...

    Culling Carnage

HA! Didn't you kill off 200 or so plants this year? Or am I remembering things wrong. ;)

    pickling Greek pepperoncini pickle test

I can't get the BF in the mood for a taste test yet - I've been feeding him all kinds of other peppers and salsa experiments. I'm getting impatient too, but his taste buds are far superior to mine in the flavor testing department. I'm trying not to nag him about it. :D

    Culling Carnage

The ripe ones are 2 reds and an orange. Hard to tell the color difference until they're completely ripe. The green ones were from a red hab. I kept the best two plants of each. As a matter of fact, I was at Lowes the other day and happened across these micro drip systems. I'm gonna get the...

    Culling Carnage

I had to do it. It's been too hot here to keep up with watering the rootbound plants I was saving "just in case" something happened to my other plants. I'll be out of town for several days soon and my neighbor will water for me. I need to make it less of a chore for her. I cut down several...

    misc The Ladybugs are here!

I had almost as much fun with the ladybugs this year as I did watching my plants flower. The larva are fast little buggers and oh so effective at tracking the nasties.

    Another Zone 10 garden

Nice peppers you got there. How many plants did it take to get that many this early? Or are they all from one HUGE plant?

    My pepper garden

My first thought was it looked like a superchili. Know what you mean. I only kept ONE tabasco and that was my youngest plant. Same with the cayenne and now I'm kicking myself. Sold all the bells... I'll need 3x as many if I sell stuff next year going by the demand here.
