    show-off Incredible Scotch Bonnet

I just had to post about this plant. I had bought some seeds from WHP and got this as a freebie. The label says Scotch Bonnet Marabella Market Caramel. I went ahead and started a couple of seeds for fun (the peppers I ordered are for next year), got a good seedling going, and planted it in a...

    annuum Rome Jalapeno Question

It does sound and look like (after seeing some pics) the Numex Vaquero. I may order some seeds from NM State and grow it right alongside the Rome to compare. After I get the seeds harvested let me know if any of you want to grow it and I'll send you some.

media I'm Coco for my Big Black Mama

I already had the nutrients... figured I'd use them up instead of letting them take up space and gather dust. Next year I'm going to do more coco grows. I rather like the way it performs. It stays moist better than I ever thought it would outside.

    annuum Rome Jalapeno Question

I am finally getting some ripe peppers off this baby. I've eaten a handful and I got to say I think this is the hottest jalapeno I've ever grown. I am growing a Biker Billy for comparison, and this Rome variety has a tiny bit more of a sting to it. It has a really nice flavor, the plant is...

show-off Hot Stuff Can't Get Enough

My more intense peppers are starting to ripen. Here's a pic. Next year I'll do a grow log like the veterans here do. Bottom left: Big Black Mama (Pepper Joe) Top: Scotch Bonnet Marabella Market Caramel (a freebie from White Hot Peppers) Bottom right: supposed to be Mustard Moruga Brain...

    media method to buffer coco?

I'm growing a Big Black Mama this year in coco/perlite. It's posted here in the forum. All I did was soak it in a double-strength CalMag solution for a few hours and rinse. I am using coco nutrients to feed it, and adding a standard amount of additional CalMag per gallon to the mix. I was in...

    show-off Everybody was Gochu fighting!

Those pods were fast as lightning... If you were alive in the 70's you remember this song by Carl Douglas. I got the seeds from Adaptive Seeds in Oregon (https://adaptiveseeds.com/product/vegetables/peppers/hot-peppers/hot-pepper-hong-gochu-large-organic). Nice pepper with heat about like a...

    nutrients Master Blend

I've used it in simple hydroponics (Kratky) for lettuce, spinach, etc., and as fertilizer for tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. The "standard" recipe for 5 gallons is 12 grams MB, 6 grams epsom salt, and 12 grams calcium nitrate. When I mix one gallon, I use a level half teaspoon of both MB and...

Well, it's getting close to show time. The outdoor guy is flowering and has a couple of pods coming. The indoor gal is starting to bud.

media I'm Coco for my Big Black Mama

I had an extra plant that I started late and thought I would try an outdoor grow in pure coco and perlite. I buffered the mixture in Cal-Mag and planted it in the lightest colored fabric bag I had (2 gallon Dirt Pot). I will be feeding it with General Hydroponics CocoTek grow and bloom formulas...

    annuum Rome Jalapeno Question

That very snippet on SFGATE is what started me on this odyssey in the first place. I wanted a jalapeno with an extra kick to it. I wound up submitting a question about this variety last week to the Chile Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University and got a response back today: Good Morning...

    annuum Rome Jalapeno Question

I noticed the differences, too. They both are from that same seed pack. The outside one sprouted first and seemed to be stronger and healthier than the other one. About two weeks ago, it just kicked into gear and really started looking good. The indoor one hasn't even been topped yet. I'm hoping...

    annuum Rome Jalapeno Question

The two plants I have are now ready. One is in a one gallon fabric bag and will stay inside under the lights. Hopefully I will be enjoying peppers this holiday season and over the winter months. The other is topped and ready to go outside.

    annuum Rome Jalapeno Question

Thanks for the response CaneDog. The reason I bought the seeds was that I read it was at the top of the heat scale for a Jalapeno. I think it was 2018 when I got them from a vendor I found (http://nmchili.com). I forgot all about the seeds until this year. I did the old paper towel/baggie trick...

    annuum Rome Jalapeno Question

I bought some seeds a few years ago from a vendor and forgot about them until this year when I was looking through my box of pepper seeds. It is a Rome Jalapeno apparently purchased from Sandia Seed Company. I emailed them and asked if they still sold this variety (it wasn't on their website)...
