    Hardening off in poor weather..

I have about planting and crappy weather. The ground has been SOAKED with rain for what seems like weeks now and Im hesitant to plant since the old wisdom is wet soil (my is VERY clay-ey) will compact. The rain does't look like it'll let up until next week sometime and it is getting very late in...

Question about Humidity Dome/ Heat Mat

Has anyone sprouted in full solo cups? I feel like potting up from little pods can be very stressful on the plants, disturbing roots at early stages, etc. I feel like the extra room for the roots to start would be helpful no?

health ID help for under leaf spots.

Not sure what this is. This is an over wintered orange scotch bonnet. It's just in regular potting soil I believe. A new plant this year has this slightly but the spots are much smaller and it is in pine fines/peat moss/perlite. Ive been feeding both Neptune's harvest and tomato tone on...

    Fruit Rot

Yes, I worried about that too last year. Nothing to worry about!

seeds desperately seeking bulbous facing heaven seeds that germ!

Good to see you are getting results. I totally forgot that the Facing Heavens take FOREVER to ripen so I started them about the same time as last year instead of early with my super hots. I only tried over wintering one FHP last year and it died immediately. Im not all science knowledgey about...

    Emeoba69 2013 Glog

Found some spots, thought Id throw them up and see if people can ID the issue. Seems to be only appearing on the bottom of the leaves. Tops seem fine for now. Some of my tomatoes I think have septoria mildly don't know if that's relevant. But typical of Ohio summers long humid stretches...

    Emeoba69 2013 Glog

The third one Im guessing you're talking about is my overwintered bhut.      But these damn deer are pissing me off. Just got home this morning to find a solid handful of my best tomatoes friggin GONE.

overwintering Are you overwinters ugly as sin?

Sorry yeah Im not sure if the OP meant that his stuff was already in for the winter or not outside yet? Either way mine have been out for 2 months all very healthy with mondo pods. Just a bit bushier than I expected.    Here they are because I can't resist.... The top two are my bonnets...

    Emeoba69 2013 Glog

OK. Sorry for waiting so long and putting these all in at once. I have limited these just to my pepper plants and not the tomatoes I started this year. The top ones are from the first week or so of May I believe. The potted ones, the top 3 of which closes to the garage door are my over...

overwintering Are you overwinters ugly as sin?

My bhut looks like what you described except it is half decent with leaves and is fruiting like crazy. My two scotch bonnets that survived decided to be bushy as hell instead of lank out. They too are filled with small peppers. Though neither of them are more than 8-10 inches high. Is that...

pests Keeping pest away with homemade pepper spray?

Yeah Im 99 % sure it was a deer as there are tons of them in my neighborhood. Though I saw a rabbit running through a yard yesterday. Im not to concerned about reapplying as Im out in the yard quite a bit.

pests Keeping pest away with homemade pepper spray?

So I went outside this morning to find a nice hefty bite was taken out of one of my tomato plants. I was wondering since I have some left over bhut powder from last year if mixing some (few tablespoons maybe?) in a gallon of water would be a good way to keep them from nibbling more on my...

    How much light?

Sorry if it's a newb question but I am looking for more supplemental light for my seedlings before I transfer them outside. I'll probably pot up once before trying to harden them off in april/may. I've got about 60-70 seedlings on each of my two seed trays. I am wondering what the rule of thumb...

    Amending clay soil recommendations.

So Im in my third year of growing peppers and want to expand into other types of herbs and vegetables. I stuck mostly with containers until last year and was went through the growing pains of experimenting with what ever half decent store bought soils I could get and mixing it with soil from my...

best way to fund pepper hobby/obsession

I am with everyone suggesting cost cutting as a solid method of saving. After trying a "soilless" mix from the soil sticky thread and I am a convert. Per cubic foot it saved me double, at least, on what I had been spending on regular soil. AND the soilless mix was ridiculously light compared to...

health Cutting, did I do it wrong?

I tried my hand at this about two months ago with a couple of Scotch bonnet cuttings. I used hormone and soil. I found any sort of direct light from a window would wilt them. I tried two or three and only one made it. I thought it never was going to root (pulling it out of the soil once or twice...

    Emeoba69 2012 grow season.

I am in Cincinnati. I didn't save the bag which is too bad I guess. It was purely by chance that I found them too as the Asian Market kind of stocks by what they can get at the time. Most of the time they had the long thin ones then randomly had them one visit. Same goes for a specific brand of...

    Emeoba69 2012 grow season.

Yeah the more bulbous ones are used for a lot of Sichuan dishes (really good boiled in soups). Though when I was in Shanghai every Kung Pao dish I ate only used the thin long ones like the ones Im growing here. They do have a markedly different taste...

    Emeoba69 2012 grow season.

Updated as requested. The facing heaven peppers have started to ripen. The one that I put in a pot is not as large as the ones in the ground ended up. The pepper clusters were larger but the actual pods did not become as large. They are a little more prominent in the pot. I potted some scotch...

    Kung Paos

Actually the Facing Heaven peppers are really mild. The thai chilis that look similar that are popular are much much hotter, which this Kung Pao seems to be a derivative of.
