Yaargh's 2015 Glog (maybe I'll grow something this year)

In a new house and I've set up 8 4' x 8' raised beds.  Drip irrigation will be installed following the tax return.   Last few years I've been largely unsuccessful.  School and moving kept me from enjoying fresh homegrown peppers.   Now that I'm a bit more stable location-wise I can concentrate...

    Yaargh!'s 2014 and onwards glog

Hi all. I have yet, since 2010, to complete a season without interruption.  It looks like I am going to be sticking around my current location for the next 3-5 years.  With that, I've requested a community garden plot.  If things go as planned I will also have a decent yard to develop a garden...

    beer Yaargh's 1st Brew

A few weeks ago a buddy and I decided to make a brew. It's not done just yet, about another week for the bottles to ready. We decided to make a Hefeweizen but altered it a bit adding Amber plus it's a bit filtered, so I guess it can't be called a true Hefe. However, it's certainly has that...

    Yaargh's 2012 Log

This year I'm doing much the same as before. I've germinated several pepper seeds: Orig. Yellow 7 from PepperLover Papa Joe's Yellow Scotch Bonnet from Chris Bahamas Goat from Chris Sport from Tomato Growers Pimenta de Padron from Tomato Growers Along with the peppers I've germinated a few...

    Yaargh's 2011/12 Season

Well, I arrived in New Mexico. Unfortunately, the student housing office decided to pull up the student garden plots for some construction project. So, we've been given the option to container garden outside of the graduate housing complex. Another year in pots for me, not the worst case. I...

Anyone Else Grow a Trinidad Scorpion Morouga? I have a question.

Anyone else grow a Trinidad Scorpion Morouga? I have a question. The pods on the plant slowly lightened and started to turn yellow and now they're completely orange but have stayed that way for about 3 days now. If anyone has grown this plant did the pods stay orange for a bit before going...

    recipe Whole Steamed Fish recipe

So, I'm remembering a past summer I spent in Beijing and now I'm in full desire for a whole steamed fish meal. Anyone have a spicy recipe to share? For instant gratification, I'm thinking about following a basic recipe on-line with the addition of Habanero powder. Are there specific fish...

    pests Stink Bugs

My first grow season and apparently there has been and still an on going Stink Bug epidemic here in Virginia. As a first time grower I wasn't very knowledgable of pests or diseases that affect peppers. When I noticed fungus looking marks on my pepper pods I couldn't find anything that pinned...

    Yaargh's 5gal DWC grow log

Alright, here's my go at growing a Trinidad Scorpion Morouga and a 7pod SR in 5gal DWC "bubbler" buckets. I started the seeds in rockwool and transplanted into 5gal buckets with leftover STG filler. I am using foxfarm "growbig" as a growth nutrient and will switch to the flowering nutrient...

Mislabeled Pepper, so what is it?

This is the first ripe C. Chinese I have produced. I bought this plant at Valley View in MD. Unfortunately, this plant was mislabeled as a Trinidad Scorpion. I know it's a C. Chinese but other than that I'm not sure. So far it's the only pepper to be produced on the plant and may have been...

    grilling Grilled Lobster

Just wondering if anyone grills lobster in this manner. While stationed in Mozambique the fish market would slice the lobster in half the long way and just slap them on the grill (maybe a spritz of lime/lemon, they were pretty quick in preparing) . I usually got it served with some Per-Peri...

I've been fooling around with the idea of purchasing prickly pear cactus seeds. I was wondering if anyone has personal experience growing these?

from flower to pepper.. average time in hydro?

My hydro pepper plants' flowers are opening. As this is my first time growing and using hydro what is the average period of time for pods to start producing after the flowers open? I do have a fan on them which will aid in pollination if necessary and the peppers are jalapeño, serrano and cayenne.

Hello from the D.C. metro area

Guess I should have posted here first before starting threads in other categories? Oh well. Anyways, I'm Bob. Live/work in the D.C. area and pretty much despise it. I wanted to grow a habanero plant for a while now and this is the first spring since leaving active duty that I have remembered...

    nutrients Nutrients and Supplements

For those using hydroponics or soil systems aided by say a drip irrigation how do you handle nutrients and possible supplements? I've read a few post comments in which people have stated that peppers rarely need much in the way of added nutrients not found in a well mixed grow medium so with...

Can this work? Florescent tube question.

I have a florescent tube fixture right now that is holding T12 tubes. Is it possible to put in T5 tubes as replacements? Are the connections different or/also would the wattage be an issue? I have no idea.

Yaargh!'s first steps. New here and to growing peppers

Hey all, been reading some topics on the forum and decided to register and try my hand at growing some hot peppers. I'll post some pictures tomorrow, most likely. I decided to try out growing in soil (pots) as well as utilizing the DWC method of hydroponics. So far, I have only a serrano...
