    Habanero stem - peduncle problem

that's pretty common on habs when the fruit is fully mature.   as long as it's not affecting the fruit i would worry not.

    fermenting first fermentation help!

Just be patient.   sometimes it takes my jars up to a week to start bubbling.   also, what do you mean by "warm"?    In my experience, the ideal temp for lactofermenting peppers is 80F (27C).

    preservation Homemade Lime Vinegar

A quick update:   off topic but relevant.    I left my vinegar solutions in a dark room on a shelf at nearly constant temperature for 4.5 months, and kind of forgot about them actually.    Solution A, spiked with unpasteurized cider vinegar, resulted in a dark liquid that still smells like...

water use citric acid to lower water ph?

I concur completely.    Unless you have some very sophisticated equipment, you're not going to be able to make a measurement that accurate in soil.   top dressing with a handful of peat moss will probably be a better bet.

love the corking on those jalapenos.    i've always wondered why some ppl find that to be unattractive.    to me, it's a sign of a healthy plant.

Trent's 2014 Grow Log - COLD COLD COLD

2wd Trucks are extremely rare in CO, not to mention cheap.   The added surface area on the ass-end drive tires is what makes duallies suck in the snow,  similar to the way a snowboard works.    I only know this because I've driven a dually through about 250,000 miles of snow.   That being said...

Should all these be separated before re-potting? UPDATE #1: first 2 transplanted, photo update

Basil seeds are miniscule.    Of course they're going to plant multiple seeds per cell.       That being said,  In my experience, It's not an issue.    One of the most prolific basil containers i've ever seen had 3 plants growing right on top of each other.

Trent's 2014 Grow Log - COLD COLD COLD

HAHA.     At least here in Colorado, many people are not fans of Duallies.    They're great when you're hauling something heavy on dry road, but they absolutely SUCK in the snow.     My subaru is more sure-footed on an icy road than the f-550 i drive for work.

    tutorial The Pest Guide

I think i may have screwed up.   I've been struggling to control an aphid infestation that was introduced by an OW'ed habanero.    Since february, this has since progressed into a whitefly and mite problem as well.    I responded by giving all my plants a dose of permethrin weekly, and it worked...

    Alcohol mitigation!

it's very simple.   ethanol is a pain reliever.   I injured my wrist during while mountain biking a few years ago.   at the end of every day, i was in wincing pain, but after a few beers i couldn't even feel it.

Gas Exchange under Different Light Conditions

I thought I would share this study from the Journal of Agricultural Science which looked into the effect of light intensity on gas exchange, chlorophyll production, and fruit yield of a particular capsicum chinense cultivar.     Abstract:   Plants in the tropics are exposed to high radiation and...

    preservation Homemade Lime Vinegar

Lactobacillus probably would achieve that effect, but again the pH of that solution is far too low for them to thrive.   If you added a base to the mix, it might be possible, but then you're converting citric acid into a salt, which will inevitably destroy the lime flavor.     I'm fairly...

    preservation Homemade Lime Vinegar

Well, this thread certainly piqued my interest...so much so that I spent about the last 4 hours reading about aerobic acetobacter fermentation.   I have a background in environmental bioremediation, so i'm familiar with these processes to a certain extent.   That being said, I fear that your...

    Hello from northern Colorado

Greetings from Fort Collins Colorado.   I'm a long time lurker on this site, but I finally registered the other day since i want to start posting pics of this year's grow.    I have been so very impressed by the ingenuity and generosity of the THP community.    THP has become my favorite site on...
