pics 1st time Growing Zimbabwe Bird๐ŸŒถ๏ธ

I've started a few seeds, I got from Amazon.๐Ÿคจ
IMG_20240615_180734_675.jpg

I've seen some call Zimbabwe
Anuum and some people say they are
fructescens
That doesn't matter too much.
I'm going to try to grow them up to fruit and save seeds for sharing and collecting pollen for breeding.
Also I want to hear from people that have grown Zimbabwe Bird Peppers. Any advice on growing these is much appreciated.
Maybe help confirm that I have an actual Zim .
Because I got the seeds from Amazon ๐Ÿ˜†

Here's my 2 babies

Awesome, Thanks.

I'm used to growing Annuums.
Do you think I should treat these differently?
Anyone have any tips for growing fructescens varieties?

Plants seem like they don't like the sandy soil mix I made for them.(But the Vinca on the left is doing fine)๐Ÿค”

The little ones dropping leaves already

Even though the plant isn't doing well
I was going to try giving it some top dress fertilizer

First, I will let the soil dry out a little bit

Hi

Here are my wee Babies............ ๐Ÿ˜ so far 5 of the 6 sown have germinated

A long way to go probably probably only keep the 3 biggest. Two friends want one to try on there kitchen window so I can get feed back on them

I'm toying with keeping mine in soil or kratky hydroponics on my kitchen window......๐Ÿค”from limited experience I've found seedlings in kratky in lower light levels in winter seem to do better and are less prone to go "leggy"

Good luck with your baby :thumbsup:๐Ÿ™‚

Okay thanks
Feel free to share pictures of your plants on here.
They're looking nice @Englander

The Zimbabwe peppers' soil is still drying out and I haven't gotten to add the miniature donkey manure

Hi

It would seem that the Zimbabwe bird chilli really likes being pampered on my kitchen window sill ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜Ž

They are growing like beast's ! I can't imagine how well they would do in the greenhouse even more overhead direct light ! But simply no room ๐Ÿ˜— And p,an is to grow it as a bonus variety on the window ledge :thumbsup:๐Ÿคž

762823af-e4b4-47b8-85b0-788b92b9d599-1_all_10415.jpg

Remarkable growth this late in the season but temps and light are very good even in Scotland right now. Two of my mates have asked to have one on there kitchen window.....only one left ........and a couple of people interested.

I'm undecided as to maximum pot size .......๐Ÿค” 2 litre, 3 litre, 5 litre given there only ment to grow 12" this king 5 litre maybe too big ? Possibly 2 or 3 litre may be ideal.........

I'm still undecided wether to grow mine in soil or kratky........๐Ÿค” from the little experience a had last winter it would seed kratky somehow deals better with winter low light levels getter than soil......

Hi Guy's

I do apologise for somewhat stealing this thread but I figure it may hopefully prove useful to others interested in the Zimbabwe bird chilli ๐Ÿคž

My Zims have all been pampered on my kitchen window sill......bulk cheapest compost from superstore generous amount of perlite and a little vermiculite added not to mention a small amount of blood and bone meal .

I'm enjoying this little project and learning already, normally when I trialling chillies I tend to sow 5 and quickly pick the strongest of each of the multiple varieties I'm trialling.

This time I've kept the best 4 as I know friends who want them this has ment Instead of discarding the other's quickly after the "best" has been picked I'm getting to observe them...........

Now quickly I marked the "best" specimen by this fastest strongest plant for myself however as they've grown I've come to change my mind as 2 that I'd ear marked for friends are now looking better with lot's more healthy side shoots coming in given the variety is ment to be compact and "bushy" I now find them better specimens than my original "best" I'd chosen........

762823af-e4b4-47b8-85b0-788b92b9d599-1_all_10546.jpg

My 4 Zims my original "best" was the 3rd from the left it was bigger and stronger than all the others the runt on the far right was always runty but the 1st and 2nd from the left have really come on and I'd now describe as "best"

My new "best" they seem to be thriving in a very well draining mix and potted up only when a healthy root system is observed after slipping the pot off to check.

Given the age the growth has been remarkable ! Our day's are shortening fast now and temps are dropping so it will be interesting to see how they do I was going to give 3 of them away next week.....however I shall hang on to all for a little longer and observe before picking the cream off the crop for myself.

The variety is apparently over winter very well we shall see............

I still like #3, lol. He's different from the others. The main stem is dark, the internodal gap appears to be smaller, the leaves look a tad bit larger, and it's taller than everybody else. AND, all this while in a smaller pot! If it was me, I'd have to keep two, lol.

Definitely keep posting your plants.

As of right now.....
my Zimbabwe pepper plants still haven't recovered and I don't have any pictures.
The Vinca Periwinkle is taking all the Root Space and I will remove it. This will hopefully improve my peppers .

@Englander your peppers are beautiful to look at
thanks for sharing with us

and I like that you're sharing plants with friends.

Thanks  ๐Ÿ™‚

The little fellas are currently basking in sunshine on my kitchen window sill we have had blue skys and highs of 18 oC sun feels warm ๐Ÿฅฐ

The little fella is still a runt ! The rest are going great guns all are starting to form the "Y" and buds :D

This afternoon I've just dosed all my house plants with fruit fly nemitodes again so took the opportunity to repot the new "Best" into a 2 litre pot ๐Ÿคž

"Y" and two buds ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

Once the nemitodes have done there magic I will give away the others in 1 litre pot's to there new owners.

@HerbCasa Maybe try to change soil, buy something different, give it a little perlite and vermiculite and water nicely with plain water for now. If they recover, give them a little nitrogen rich water (like from onion peals).

Some soil can cause stuntness in peppers. That is unfortunate that you don't see nice progress with your zims.
