2010 Grow Log

I've needed to get this going so here goes. The following list was started Jan. 25. It is my first time trying hydro. Got it pieced together just in time to get my chinense varieties started. It's an ebb and flow setup in nursery trays placed end to end with heat mat, under 40w flouros which I later added a six position bath bar with cfl's to the wall behind my plants in the grow area which is 5' tall 6' wide and 2' deep. If my lumen math is correct for adult plants (3000 lpsf) would be 180,000 lumen s total and @ 2000 lpsf I would need 120,000 lumen s. That is seven more of the twenty dollar 6 pos bath bars. Two on the ceiling and 5 more on the wall. That is just insane which is sad because I think my wife already thinks I'm there. My kids thoroughly enjoy it! Not sure what I will do (lighting wise) for the two or three adult plants that I would like in there year round. I think I was just planning to start seeds this way and pot up once or twice in the hydro setting and then change to a soil medium and hopefully warmer outside temps.

Yes SS, I probably went a little crazy this year compared to years past when I had 25-30 plants. I'm looking forward to making sauces, dehydrating, freezing pods, and hopefully selling some at markets. One other cool thing is that my in laws are so enamored with my efforts and my yearning for more land that they are interested in sharing some acreage. I've been married for 23 years and I've always got along great with them so I'm not as freaked out about it as my wife is.

Thanks for the reply SS.

Mid April Update;

Well the aphid battle has begun. I got them under my thumb, if you know what I neem! I had 40 or so one gallon plants in my back porch area last weekend and I discovered several plants with early aphid attacks. I scoured each plant with my magnavisor on (failing eyesight), nerdy as can be. I had yellow green fingers. Mixed up the neem and soap and doused em good. I moved them outside on a pallet I got from work. I'll stain it eventually, to cool and wet now. It holds around 44 one gallon pots and probably at least 20 or so 5 gallon pots for the future. I think I need another one for the baccatum's and annuum's coming. I bought some used 5 gallon pots at a local nursery and a plant called Pico de Pajara. I made sure several ladybug larvae rode home on the plant. Kids got some strawberry plants too. When I got home I learned that the Pico de Pajara is another name for Chile de Arbol. I wasn't growing that so it's cool. I have lots of dried pods though.

I couldn't find any local lady bugs so I and to order some.

Regards Mike

This plant is from gift seeds from six possible variety's. It looks similar in structure and leaf shape to my Burkina SB but less foliage. I have at least two of these and they grew fast. First seeds to sprout. My feelings are that it is a Jamaican scotch bonnet. There are 3 photos. The 6 possibles list is:
Bhut Jolokia, Red Devils Tongue, Trinidad Scorpion, Jamaican SB, Chocolate Hab, Orange Hab .
I now believe it is a Red Devils Tongue.
Anyone care to opinion which it is?

June Photo updates. I have some late seed arrivals that I couldn't resist starting. Here from Amishland seeds are Red and Yellow Chicken Hearts also known as Hinkle Hatz. Tiny Samoa, Little Nubian, Yellow Sweet Mini Bell, Hungarian Death, and Purple Glow in the Dark. Excellent Germination rates and fast except for the Little Nubian took two attempts (10 days) and all 5 seeds.

Thanks Francis, Your Fatalii seeds went in the mail today. I forgot to mention they were open pollinated seeds so I included a sweet bell that was isolated. I saw mention of sweet bells in some of your earlier posts on the forum.

Thanks SS, I shall do that today. Hopefully there's a couple more in there than those visable in the photo. Another plant I removed the iso bag from had some pods without my knowing growing deformed. They make it look like some kind of cross but they are not. The plant is a mystery plant already but I believe it is a Red Devil's Tongue, not sure though. Here's Pics.
