event 2012 Northwest Chilefest- official thread

You all sure know how to do it! I think the campground fest is the way to go. I love Bowers and all but it would be WAY better just to set up, cook, share, hang, drink, and rock! I MUST GET OUT THERE for one of these. Good work all and keep the pictures coming!

Yes Seth, yes you MUST!!!!!! And HUGE thanks to you and Justaguy for all the glorious molten nuggets of goodness to share!!!!!!!

What an incredible weekend!!!! It was soooooo much fun to hang out with such an amazing group of people!!!! Hard core chileheads, chileheads in training, and the mildly curious alike - some of the neatest folks I've ever met!!!! I had an absolute BLAST!!!!! My cheeks hurt from smiling so much!!!!! :D

With so many highlights, I'm gonna need a couple more cups of coffee to get it into print....

I just wanted to give a shout out of major THANKS to everyone for making it such a fantastic time!

SL - you are 100% right......PEPPER PEOPLE ROCK!!!!!!!!

Jenn and I had a wonderful time ! Can't wait to see all the pictures !
It was great getting to know you and Jenn, as well!
We'll see you next year if we don't have some mini CF's first!

Indeed you must, my friend! We had so much fun just doing pepper
stuff and hanging out. Thanks from the bottom of my heart
for sending the pods - outrageous specimens, buddy!

I'm suspecting many pics will start landing soon!!!! hahahaha

Hey - did anyone lose an Auto Emergency Tool?????
I just found one in one of our boxes!

What Paul no pics? ;)

Ok, Jamie, here's a few pix. The flash on my camera really is bad, so I didn't
get any night party pictures. I hope someone else did.

Lots of product to try, as well. They were all so good:

Tough for JaysonB and Selena to make a choice - Ann had some great stuff available:

This seemed to happen a lot; One Fowl and Martin get ready
to sample a a nice pepper. Maybe they can remember the
name. I tried a couple of slivers, and it had nice flavor and heat:

I'll add a few more after another post.

40 yes, FOURTY POUNDS OF PORK BUT ROASTS, in the smoker.
The hardest part was getting up Saturday morning at 6 AM to get them in.
file-63.jpg

After eating, MegaSpokaneMan his hottie Jenn, chillin and digestin.
file-64.jpg

Other "digesting" activities included Jason, Selena and Jarret doing pro style yoyo. Masters of the art I tell ya!
I saw what they could do with my own eyes. W O W.
file-65.jpg

Yeah... that thing is still spinnin... Mind. Blown.
file-66.jpg

Saturday night everyone was at our site watching Aaron (HH81) teaching how to do a TD.
It was like watching a cooking show live. He is a pro, and it was a great night drinking and watching him work his magic.
And we ALL got to have a sliver of it to taste. AWESOME!!!
file-61.jpg

That's Hawkeye in the white shirt! He came over from Woodinville. WHOOT!
file-60.jpg

Hawkeye, SL and some dude that said he had hhwiskey.

Thank you to everyone who chipped in for the picnic shelter rental. When I counted up the donations, if I correctly remember what it cost, I think the donations equaled the price exactly to the dollar. How cool is that?

Great pictures Paul and Scovie!

That picture of scovie and his smoker is one of the best yet if you ask me.
Jerret and his yoyo shot is also pretty insane. I was watching from a distance and my mind was blown as well.

Now that everyone's getting in on story telling I'll chip in

One of my favorite quotes of the day was from PaulG, chatting with my Wife and I when we first got there....

"Brandon, for the longest time I thought you were like... 45 years old.. How old are you guys?!"

I responded.. "Paul... Trust me, I'm 45 at heart"

Good times..

Mini story for you guys..

About 30min after Aaron and I won the PureEvil Challenge my Wife and I had to head back and relieve our babysitting grandparents.. It was an hour long drive for us which was no biggy.. Problem was, we didn't have any drinks in the car. I was all good after the competition, shared another beer with Paul, and headed home.. 5 minutes from home and 55 minutes without anything to eat or drink my stomach started to hate me. That soggy cap covered popcorn sitting on the bottom of my stomach was NOT a good time. If I had to imagine what labor felt like, this was definitely a close second. I started squirming around the passenger seat, unbuckled my seatbelt, I pounded a half bottle of water that had to have been 125 degrees from the beach a few days before hand. It was bad. We got home and I went straight for the fridge and pounded a good half gallon of milk and ate scovies pulled pork sandwich. Felt much better after that.

I think after the challenge Nick said "The challenge isn't over yet guys! You still have to digest it!" Nick, you were right about that one.

Great pictures, Scovie! That was a blast for sure.

HH81 pounding the pizza dough. Incredible display of
outdoor culinary art:

Don't know how I left this one out earlier. Scovie and
SalsaLady keep an eye on their butts:

I guess there's always room for one more pic of
SalsaLady doctoring the popcorn for the Pure Evil
Challenge:

The arsenal of hot. I was fortunate to bail out relatively unscathed.
The kernels with one drop weren't too bad, but as someone said,
we should have waited longer between kernels. the heat didn't start
to build for me until we were on the second plate. Then all the
previous drops kicked in, and it just kept getting hotter in my mouth.
I had plenty of chips and chile sauce samples before hand, followed
by an outrageous piece of zucchini bread with cream cheese (thanks
to RS67Man's wife) on top, so my stomach was ready. When we
got to the three droppers, the kernels were soggy, and my moputh
was really heating up, so I dropped out. I don't remember if I had
one of the 4 drop kernels or not. Thanks SalsaLady for letting us
go crazy with the Pure Evil. I think a small entry fee foe contestants
to cover the cost of the drops would be appropriate. I certainly
had a few bucks worth of drops during the competition:

Next year I need to take more pictures. I was too busy having
fun to remember to snap away. And thanks to everyone who
participated. People brought some really neat stuff. Now that
I know what to expect, I'll be readier next Fall! :woohoo:

Thanks, Brandon. I have to take more next year. Grrrr.
Jerret and his yoyo shot is also pretty insane. I was watching from a distance and my mind was blown as well.
No Kidding - it was incredible how they could manipulate them without hurting someone.

Nothing like a Scovie-smoked pulled pork sandwich to settle the capsaicin!
I think after the challenge Nick said "The challenge isn't over yet guys! You still have to digest it!" Nick, you were right about that one.
Sorry you had to suffer so much, my friend. Not. Just kidding :D
Eating a lot of food after the competition was very helpful for me.
I cut up a couple of the Pointed Yellow Habaneros for the
sandwich and it was too good. The major effect of the whole
thing for me was feeling really tired after eating. It took me a
couple of hours to get my second wind so I could stay up to
watch Aaron create that bomb pizza. It was so good! We had a great
time partying until about 1'30-2'00 in the morning. I slept like a
baby out side afterward. Before everyone jumps on that, no, I didn't
pass out, I was actually sleeping outside :drooling: . Thanks to
Scovie and Chile Juju for sharing their space with me. The potty was
a nice feature.

PaulG, no donations for the Pure Evil. Y'all's pain was reward enough! :evillaugh: Yea, everyone said it went too fast. Someone will post a video of it eventually. Next time, we're thinking of doing the ramen noodles type thing. 20 drops in that and you have to set for 3 minutes or whatever....

Here's a few more pics-

Great pics, girl! The light reflecting off MegaSpokaneMan's jacket is way cool!
You probably noticed the same pic posted twice. Missy and the infusion got
lost somehow. It's so great seeing pics of all the fun!

Thanks, Paul, I'll fix that. Here's a couple videos-

And I have one more video if someone'll bump-
