contest 2017 Inaugural Southern Hemisphere Growdown Throwdown Aji Amarillo

Yeah, if we get one of us to isolate enough seeds to cater for next season's growdown, then we'll need to be doing that asap. What sort of varieties are we thinking?

I'd personally vote for something fast and prolific.

I had never grown the Aji Lemon Drop until the 2017 Growdown.
If you're after heat, not great, but for flavor and production hard
to beat.

A few years ago Jamie (Romy6) got a Goat's Weed mystery cross
that was awesome.  I had a plant go over 10 feet (3m) here in the
PNW. If you are going for size, that might be a good one.  Seeds
probably hard to get.  I got mine from Shane (Stc3248).

Just sayin'  :D

Shame to hear you won't be competing further, karoo, ts been fun.

So you got 2 different types of baccatum seeds from this vendor, but neither of them are actually Aji Amarillo? Thats insane stuff.

However, they are seemingly both good varieties, so its not a total loss!

I think I'll end up having a lot of my Trinidad Scorpion CARDI seeds, which is producing some fairly YUGE pods, lots of them, and is reportedly an all round good one (can't comment on the taste yet, but I'll come back to you in a few days...)

So we can add that to the options too.

Thank you for your offer !
I am in .

Let's just say it's been educational .
We learn something new in this world of peppers every week.

The USA vendor I received my seeds from , clearly show a photo of the very small pods that fits into the palm of a hand and says Aji Amarillo . Clearly not the case . I wish you guys the best of luck and I will keep growing and eating and saucing my orange pods , but not weighing them.

Pm me as soon as you have seeds to share of the Aji Cito.

Hey Karoo.

Pity about the no-go on the Amarillos. I will send through some Cito seeds regardless of growdown for next year and will chuck in some Amarillo seeds also.

Out of interest how hot are your 'Nomarillos' ?

Hey all.

Been a while but really nothing to report! Plants still happy and producing but no colour yet! These things really do drag their feet...I've been picking ripe pods from every plant but the Amarillos.

Soon, soon.....

But really, they are taking a bloody long time!

I'm with ya guys on the Amarillo's being a so slow ripening plant.

Besides that I'm giving it another whorl this season as an early entry, and it's already running out of room. The peppers are worth the wait, if you can get them to ripen ;)

Not really how I wanted to get a first weigh in done but had a couple of pods whipped off by wind so not going to waste any ...

This is from my chosen plant and is a first official weigh in

Hey guys,

My plant died in the heat the other week :( See my Glog for details.

But I wanted to ask, as I started a few plants on the same day can I sub in a replacement? Same age, same sow date, same everything except for this one isn't dead.

The ones in the box are the spares, they are still in that box

pretty please?

Ay, sorry I've missed this. Sounds like we've had a hard time all around.

So KAOS has his first weigh in, at

28.7:3

(Weight:pods)

Shame to hear Local's plant does, but you can sub in a replacement.

No pods yet on my end.

So I have good news and bad news...

The good news is I have chosen my comp plant (the one in the pot) and here's the first pod from it!

The bad news is the choice of competition plant was kinda made for me as I discovered maggots in the pods of the other Aji Amarillo. They've also hit my Aji Jobitos and 1 or 2 of my bishops crowns. Hoping I've gotten rid of all the bad fruit now and they don't spread to the other plants... this could be bad......

Now we're talking!

Scoreboard:

Drathag: 30:1

KAOS: 28.7:3

ThatBlondGuy101: -:-
LocalFart: -:-

Most pods in a single weigh in is 3 from KAOS.
Heaviest weigh in is 30g from Drathag.
And the current largest pod is 30.4g from KAOS.

And, in case we forgot, KAOS hold the fastest to fork, fastest to flower, and first to pick a ripe pod.

114 days to go!    :seeya:

Drathag: 72:3
KAOS: 28.7:3

Still no darn colour here.... Are we 100% sure that there isn't an evergreen strain of Amarillos?!?!?!
