Hi All

It's getting to that stage where we need to plan the next growdown.

I can supply the Aji Cito seeds, but will need to get them posted pretty quick so get voting

I also have no issue if we go with something else, but will need to order in good time as it takes ages to get to NZ

If you vote 'Something Else' post a suggested variety

Poll closes Friday 27th April

Update time.

Ive been away for a couple weeks so my plants havent recieved all the attention they could have. i think i have decided on my best plant but there are still 2 in the running. The bigger plant has been replanted into a large pot where i hope it will stay. the second plant will go into the ground soon. just waiting for the last frosts too be gone.

pods are showing on the bigger plant and is still producing many flowers. the second plant is only flowers at this stage.

My turn for an update.

No flowers on mine yet, but they are showing some growth. They are definitely looking healthier than they were. The rains we had for the last few weeks haven't done them any favours, but the last couple days of sunshine are helping.

This one seems to be the biggest and healthiest, and will probably end up being the throw down contender. Around 40cm tall.

Nice one Jaques.

They are hot little buggers.

I'd be keen to get ideas from everyone on what you going to do with them (sauce, powder, etc)

The first smaller harvests will just be dried and bagged for powdering later. I love all Baccatum powders.
Hopefully I will have enough pods later for an all Cito sauce . Maybe even try to smoke some.

The African Weather Goddess have just lost all her marbles. We are in the middle of a 8 day heat wave , with temperatures of 38-42 ° Celsius for a full 8 days .
Flowers dropping and pods ripening at an alarming rate . The plants are just looking really sad.

Weather is a bit strange this year isnt it?

Up in Jhb we have only had 1 short rain so far this year and its almost the end of Oct... this is meant to be lightning season with lots of hail storms

Good luck for the rest of the season

I'm in South Texas, on the east edge of the western deserts. So it's quite dry here. Since September 2nd we're well over 32"s. Sometimes that's 1.5 years of rain..

I wish I had the $$ to build a retractable roof over the garden...

Not much to update at the moment. the weather has been sunny but still fairly cool days so the growth has slowed down a bit. they are starting to set pods though. i think i have 6-8 on my bigger plant and the only other one i am watching has set its first pod.

Hi , Aji Cito growers.

My plant hit the pause button during and after the 8 day heatwave we had up till a week ago. Pods are ripening and existing pods are growing , but no new leaves or flowers .

Not a single flower in sight , where I could count up to 20 two weeks ago.!

If it goes on this way , I will have a bleak midsummer and hopefully catch up in April.

Not a flower anywhere!

Heat does ripen pods.

Buds and flowers on the ground. Stopped counting at 30.

Nice looking plant!

Sounds like around here, I usually get a 90-120 production stall during the heat.

Hopefully this is not the case in your plant.  Good luck!
