outdoors a fishing thread

Great fishing reports Chris, the scenery looks amazing, my kind of fishing that's for sure. The location is reward enough, catching fish is a bonus.

I managed to get out spearfishing recently, as conditions were forcast to be ideal, and they were. The water was dead flat and the visibility underwater was 8m/24ft+ which is exceptional for southern Australia. Given the 2hr drive to the dive location, I was in the water by 8:30am.

Fish were abundant, but the bigger one's seemed elusive. I ended up with two Sweep (top), and two Horse Shoe Leather Jacket (bottom), which made for a great meal. I could've taken many more fish, but I only select the bigger ones.

The Leather jacket are a beautiful bright blue color before they die, almost too beautiful to kill, but too tasty not to. :P

I saw a 1m/3ft Swell shark which was snooping around, and managed to catch a 60cm/2ft Varied Cat Shark by hand which was the second one in as many dives. He/she was released unharmed.

It was a great dive, I only managed to last just under three hours in the 12degC/53degF water before I could no longer feel my fingers and toes. It was great to be back in the water though.

Nice catch Shoe...

So i'm at the dock with my buddy about to launch and go fishing. Dude on the other side of the dock is just getting back and I see him pull out a 60-70 pound white seabass. I say, holy shit that thing is a monster!! Where'd you catch it??? He says, In the mouth. Sonofabitch!! One of the worst burns I ever got!

As promised, more bluefish.  In my neck of the woods, we call the young ones "snappers."  The fish appear bigger in the picture than they actually are.  They must have recently spawned, because they just started showing up and are little.  People fishing near me caught smaller ones.  I don't know why, but the snappers showed up later than usual this year.  Hopefully, this means that if the weather holds up, they will stick around later as well.  I like these better than full-sized bluefish, because they don't have the oily, slightly funky, bluefish taste.  I filleted some for family members who can't deal with any bones, and just gutted the other's.  They are all now vacuum sealed and frozen.  I'm not going to bother filleting any more of thee little ones—too much meat is wasted.  When I cook snappers for myself, I just pull out the backbone and eat around the rest of the bones.

I finally caught something other than bluefish.  These blowfish were delicious.  I coated the tails (the only edible meat) in corn flour and fried them in butter:

  Reminds me of getting spine'd by a striper or rockfish. Just tell people the new stain is pepper juice.

I've heard those bluefish have a nasty bite on the fishing shows.

Got out for a few hours this week, with very little rain & searing temps didn't think I'd find any of these guy's roaming the rivers yet, at least not as far north as I go. Water level is way down & they made me work double time for them. Kwikfish was the key to success for these beauties, roe, worms spoons..etc didn't get so much as a twitch. Turned out to be a good day considering I left my rod in the car but ran back when I spied a couple of dark things swimming in a pool.

This one took me up river quite the distance, had a older gentleman snap this picture who was walking his dog, his dog wanted a piece of it.

Nice - What kind of fish are those?

Those are Chinook Salmon. Depending on where you are in New York, Dragon, you should be able to catch these in any river that dumps into Lake O.

Spent this past Sunday up on a Georgian Bay tributary chasing fish. They were suppose to get some good rain but guess the weather man was wrong as the river was quite low but ain't going to waste a 3hr drive so fish it is. Caught some decent small mouth bass & tied into some Kings. Some were beat up pretty good from all the banging on rocks with little water but they were feisty as hell.

My bud caught a action shot of me falling on my ass battling a fish, didn't lose any concentration or tension & landed it...lol

Yea, its about a 12ft white shark trying to steal salmon from anglers. I know its not a very good pic. Might see some better ones in the next month. They are thick in my local waters this time of year.
How close to shore do they get?
