AJs Back Yard Pepper Porn 05-10-09

Looks so good AJ. All we have today is a yard full of frost...I'll be so happy when June hits so we can get the peppers out soon.

Wow, now I know why I haven't seen as many posts as normal from you. That's a lot of work but it looks like it is paying off.

I'm convinced a GH speeds plant development up quite a bit. I can tell just from the plants I have outside hardening off compared to ones still inside that were transplanted at the same time. Nothing comes close to the sun.

Mike

I've seen where Farmers cut mazes in their cornfields, charge to see if you can find your way out.You could do the same with pepper plants!
Amazing!

Hi AJ
I just moved from Minnesota to west Texas. I had to make several trips, and my plants didn't fare that well, but fortunately, I started a lot of peppers and hopefully I'll have at least 6-8 super hots make it through. (My pequins all made it through unscathed!)I noticed that most of your plants are lined up along a solid surface like the fence, or the house, or the brick wall. Why is that? Is it to protect them from hail? Thanks.

My neighbors do want to look in my back yard to see what all I am growing...had the police helicoptor hovering over my house last weekend again...

welcome to Texas..the reason they are lined up against the perimeter of the yard is simply to protect them from the wind...the wind blows pretty hard and often here...

Yeah, very impressive lineup(s). Do you have any peppers going in the ground or all in containers?

All will be in containers

Beautiful sight AJ. Question for ya - do you do anything to prevent cross-polination?

Only if I am planning on saving seeds for trade or pure breed stock for next year...I mostly buy or trade for new seeds each year...another way I try and take care of keeping my seed stock fairly pure is to group my varieties together...the ones in the side yard next my cement farm are all Bhuts, Dorsets, Bihs, and Nagas...I am not worried about cross pollination between these varieties since I think they are basically the same pepper...
