Any new "Strains" or "Varieties" Emerge...

over the summer (US) or winter (AUS)?

What is the "hot" hot pepper in the pepper growing world. Douglah? 7's or Scorps?

Any scoop on news of a new hot chili pepper variety?

The Passow Piqrano should be ready for distrubution over the winter.

tell me more! What exactly is the Piqrano, seen it referred to a few times but never knew what it was.

I'm not him, but:

It's a strain that I've devoted about 3 or 4 years of my time to making sure it's stable. It's a cross between a Piquin and a Fire Serrano (hence the name Passow Piqrano). It combines the best trates of both plants (the Piquin is the mother plant).

It grows like a Piquin (big, tall, bushy), grows a ton of peppers (just like the Piquin), has down hanging fruit (like a Serrano) that are medium/thin walled (like a Serrano but slightly thinner) are FILLED with juice (burst in your mouth like a Piquin) and taste FANTASTIC (just ask AJ, he's had them). Definitly a high end Medium heat.

He had a piquin plant that grew random large pods and turned out to be stable.

Different strains that I'm about to stablize are:
  • Neon Lamp (C.chinense x C.frutescens)
  • Red Bud (C.chinense x C.frutescens)
  • Pervert's Tongue (C.annuum x C.frutescens)

Projects in progress:
  • OSE12 (C.chinense x Classified)
  • Scorpion X (Classified)
  • Omri's New & Improved Jolokia (Selective Breeding of a Raja Mirch)
    [*]
and some others I'm still getting together.
The most difficult problem I encountered was the lack of fertility in the C.chinense x C.frutescens crosses.

I've been working with some really aggressive methods stabilizing them and I'm pretty sure the top three are ready, but will grow them another year just for observation.
