three we carved last year when our god daughter stayed over.   
 
the one on the right is something similar to your last one but my wife used a apple instead.
 
the one in the middle was done by Megpie and on left is mine.   Similar inspiration to your son's I think.  Beast boy from teen titans?? 
 
 
 
I always like to put ears on mine with light holes behind so they show up at night but the second photo doesn't really pick up on that like you can see in real life.
