I'd love to see your spread ABG - I spent 2 years working for Rod McLellan breeding paphiopetalum orchids and working as the head grower for their "Spa for Orchids" - people paid to house their private collections that would otherwise die in their apartments. When in spike they'd pick up the plants, get them to within an inch of death, then return them to me to perform miracles and resurrect them.
It was a horrible, thankless job, but I got to play with 1,000s of interesting & often rare orchids. My favorite to this day is the Catasetum. Not the rarest thing, but interesting as it had a green flower (which as I understand was believed to be impossible in plants for a long time) and we had one that would launch a pollen ball about 20' at the touch of a pen. It was pretty awesome. I have many favorites, but that was just flippin cool.
I'm sure you have some fantastic specimens out there. I was on the big island last August and through a friend of a friend met the owners of Orchid People, who became fans of my sauce & invited me to tour their nurseries - I was in hog heaven.
Brutal business though - a lot of snobs and a lot of $$$ (which I guess go hand in hand, but not always) - nice to know there are more orchid growers/fans out there who are good people.
