sorry you feel that way
but I am right in the fact that you spending money on the mechanical shit that you do and the expensive equipment that you have bought will never make up for technique
you have never had an infection or anything close to it, yet you make the point of "tri clamp fittings will help with a sanitary setting", its just pointless and unnecessary
and I never lose at civ
i did lose the TD, you are right, but I also spent 30 minutes at the most doing it, when you spent 3 days, and I didnt lose by a landslide either
i was just fucking around ... no need to get all serious ... honestly, i can never tell which version of you i'm going to get, and you don't spend much time in the other threads to have the same context that 1010 or Ozzy has ...
that was the #vaginaface to the #dickface or "fuck your face off" you said any number of times in my threads ...
i am poking at you aboutt the TD, but only because you told me you wanted a rematch afterwards ...
i think to an extent that in going to brewing school, working at a brew shop and/or in breweries that you've lost some of the qualities people homebrewing enjoy, though ...
or, maybe your just a different type of person, but i *like* the gear ... i love/hate the tinkering ... and i was attempting to point out to you that when it comes to your hobbies, you do the same thing (building pc's and working on your car) ...
this is a hobby for me, i have no intention of trying to turn pro whatsoever ...
anyways ...
to be specific, about the triclovers - and btw, we're talking about 1.5", not 3-4" - it's a very effective way to be able to use a kettle for different purposes, indoor and outdoor ...
the burner i have is like 210,000 btu's, and it's a little further from the bottom of the pot than is optimal from what i've read in people's reviews ...
that wouldn't be a good mix with cords from electric elements ...
also, i hate the fact that when i want to clean my kettle, the cord is permanently attached to the pot ...
in switching to triclover i can remove the element when i clean the kettle, and not have to worry about getting water in the pot ...
i'm not gonna lie, i'm happy about using a knockout punch instead of a unibit too - which is a PITA ...
i'm not changing
all of my fittings or anything like that, i'm getting the 1/2" NPT fittings for the triclover so that I can still use most of my existing stuff the same way, just through that port:
https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/tc15f12nptdouble.htm
as for all of the other stuff ... relax ... you are conflicted ... on one hand you are saying "you need to work on your technique" and in the next sentence you are saying "you've never had anything close to an infection" ...
we both know the main thing i've been fucking up - all of the damn batches with the 1.100 starter wort ...
I said the Mild XXX was clean, but boring ... you said it was the best, really nice ... it's one i didn't need to make a starter for ...
because my threads have so many pages, i didn't look back to see which batches i used starters in, and which i didn't, but i have an idea re: it ...
i always said i did a nice job on your saison ... it was 2.5 gal at 5.5% or something ... i didn't use a starter ...
i liked the darkness everybody batch ... i made that starter 750ml on the stove, using DME ... it was clean, and quite good ...
unfortunately there's quite a number of beers this year that i made using the Fast Pitch ... and, those beers haven't been as good ... which i knew, which is why i was hesitant to send you beer - saying very plainly a number of times, "i wish i had the red eye and darkness everybody or any of those beers to send" ...
i was thrilled to have figured it out ... am thrilled to have figured it out ... but then the outlet in my kitchen blew ...
now my electric's been fixed - new main on the house and i've got a dedicated circuit for my outlet in the kitchen skipping the subpanel ...
the whole beginning of the triclover thing came up from decided to built a proper mash tun ahead of my boil kettle - so whatever assumption you've come to for why i'm adding equipment is probably not the reason in earnest ...
i figured while tackling other shit, i'd start to sparge proper - certainly you aren't going to disapprove with that =)
i lost a freezer, too ... and in deciding how to proceed through that, whether to replace or repair, i decided to go a different route going forward so i can have per-batch ferm temps - borrowing from glycol systems ...
now i'll be able to ferment each batch at the temperature it needs, eliminating the bottleneck of not being able to have beer fermenting and crashing in the same freezer ...
and really, cleaning fermenters with narrow necks sucks ass ... i work hard and can afford to not have to suffer with that shit, so i make no apologies about buying myself some gear to make it more fun ...
does it make more sense now? ...
you've had clean beer, you've had beer with great head, and beer that was nice and clear ... my process is fine and i'm pretty sure that in addressing the starters, i'm about to make the best beer i've made yet.
RDWHAHB ...
